So then why did the patriots need to cheat?

Until the third quarter, they thought they needed to, but let's not forget that the Pats were cheating the week before vs Baltimore, a game they barely won.

Who knows? Even after a six month 'investigation' the people doing the Wells report couldn't even find solid evidence; how am I supposed to know?

All I'm saying is, the game wasn't decided by the ball pressure (players for the Colts stated this in interviews, and the Patriots played better after the balls were swapped). Other QB's/teams have openly admitted that they manipulate the balls, and nobody bats an eye. Ray Rice knocks his wife cold (and it's caught on camera!) and the league hands him a two game suspension (TWO GAMES!).
But when the Patriots "MAY" have tampered with inflation pressures in a game that it didn't make a difference in, (and the league's own rules state that a $25K fine is mandatory and anything beyond that is 'punitive'), but they hand down a million dollar fine and a four-game suspension.
However, the league has been under huge pressure after their handling of other big scandals, so they were looking to make and example and show that they can 'play hardball' with players/teams. And the Patriots are the winningest team in football, so nobody likes them anyway. Who better to make an example of?
I'm just saying that it's a double standard. Other teams break the rules, other players set far more horrible examples, but who gets the big fines and the big suspensions?

I realize that an NFL 'Trash Talk' thread (on the internet) isn't the place to try to point out reasonable facts, but I've tilted at taller windmills before.

They found plenty of evidence. And the patriots were awfully uncooperative for being "innocent". Of course they can't come out and say 100% they were cheating because they have to cover their own asses on the tiny chance something comes to light that proved otherwise. But until then all evidence points towards them cheating, again.

And sure the penalty was strong, but what do you expect them to do to a team with a reputation of cheating and not cooperating?

Don't kid yourself. If the NFL's investigation was actually about curbing cheating, it would have been a lot more widespread, especially with so many other players/organizations admitting to tampering with the balls.

Don't kid yourself. It was a clear message to the patriots that their cheating habits are gonna be less and less tolerated. Cuz let's be honest, I'm sure they're bending some other rules too and it's only a matter of time before they get aired out ;)

    ....right.
Because nobody else in the NFL bends, breaks, or ignores the rules...

Fred Davis to the Pats, curious what the intent there is. We already have too many tight ends, and I think Chandler is probably a better overall tight end. Hmm...

You kept saying it was all up to the NFL, so Tom Brady is a cheater. Doesn't matter how many others are, Brady is a cheater

That aside, I'm just not sure where his talent is going to fit. Not fast enough to convert to WR, definitely not big enough to be a blocker, hands don't seem good enough to play every snap - just odd, unless they're considering making Wright a WR.

In any sport if you get caught with faulty, tampered with equipment, you pay a price. Especially if that equipment gives you an advantage. It doesn't matter if you did it or not. The leagues don't have the burden of proof, the individual does. Think Sammy Sosa and his corked bat. He held the bat and used it. Brady held the ball and threw it.

In this case the footballs were tampered with. The people in charge of the footballs gets punished, Brady and ball handlers, period end of story. The organization also gets punished because of their history of putting themselves in stupid situations. The punishment is more severe for not opening up to the investigators.

All of the other noise, texts, fumble statistics, opposing players noticing low pressure balls points to this being a lot more than a single game occurrence but that is irrelevant. Though anyone with half a brain can understand this has been going on for a long time, that doesn't matter in this case.

I'm not denying that punishment should have been meted out, simply pointing out that it's overly severe, and that it's likely due to public outcry because of a bunch of whiny bitches who've spent the last 15 years losing to Brady, Belichick, and the Patriots throwing tantrums for six months about it.
Minnesota and Carolina get caught red handed warming balls on the sidelines. Video proof exists. Nobody cares. They get a warning.
Aaron Rodgers admits in a pregame interview to inflating balls beyond the maximum pressures allowed. Video proof exists. Nobody cares. No fines, no warning.
Patriots are accused of using underinflated footballs. Media circus ensues, fans of other teams lose their shit. After a six month investigation, a verdict of "Maybe, Probably" is handed down. $1 million dollar fine, four game suspension, loss of draft picks.

You can say it's because the Pats have a history of cheating, but so does every. Other. Team. In. The. NFL. http://yourteamcheats.com/
I say it's because Ol' Roger was trying to gain favor with the masses of people who hate him and also hate the Patriots, so they're trying to set an example by handing down a disproportionate punishment.
