So I just inherited this 2001 Prerunner SR5 from my grandfather. It only has 28,000 miles on it. Looking to build it up! Just don't know where to start! I'm very new to this, don't know much. Looking for some advice/guidance through my journey, that it is all! I appreciate any thoughts or comments! Thanks!

I'd start with tint and rims. That never hurts

I got summit 84 series black steelies. 16x8. Cost me $250 total for all 4 with chrome center caps and they look great. a782753a4615211736e852ce4ca31057_6b32b3eb8cc478ed0a7c0a9ddb67d7127354da16.jpgb7706e804875cb00d943ad6270ec1093_478ec5d6cc1b1bb63a3c07303496a5b3ca0799f3.jpg

Got the same exact year/model:) Amazing how much shes changed compared to stock. Be careful cuz once you got the mod bug, it's nevuh gonna stop!

Majority of my first mods were cosmetic and lighting.. LED light bars (of which I got carried away with).. Projector retro.. Other led upgrades like interior, engine bay lighting, exterior... Battling issues from neglected maintenance from PO.. Few "performance" upgrades like cai,exhaust.. Just installed cb radio.. Next on the list is a proper lift and get rid of spacer/block lift.. More maintenance.. Perhaps some heavy duty bumpers in the future with a winch.. Bed rack with fold out tent and lots of gear. Plan to EVENTUALLY get it set up for some expeditions and do some traveling.

Lots and LOTS of options/ideas/routes to go. It's basically limitless. You could even do a 4x4 swap, if you really wanted.. Considered it myself but, thats a project! All depends on how far you wanna take it. Whether you wanna keep it limited to a street queen DD or a weekend warrior...

Imo, I'd start with lift, wheels and bigger tires. Can't go wrong and it just makes a taco look so much more sick:) After that, the sky is the limit. Just keep her in tip top shape! Best thing you can do now, since she hasn't even really been 'broken in' (lol), is to keep up on all the maintenance. RELIGIOUSLY!! Good luck:)

Here's my baby, fwiw, few ideas maybe?:)

How did you manage the led bars where the lower turning signals are? I'm not huge on light bars but the turning signal mod is great.

A LOT of creativity. Ha. They were a bitch. Working on a write-up for those. Currently have them out. Installed a new valence recently. Final look/setup is still incomplete.

Sweet hopefully I can find it when you post up. I wouldn't mind doing that. I really want to put two 4" led cubes flush with my rear bumper but I just know I'm going to screw it up ha!

Dang. What you've done is awesome! Really like those tires man! What kind are they? Also you said you were looking at a lift for yours; I am also looking for a lift just not sure which size/kind I want! Just wanted to get someone else's opinion on lifts.

I've got the same truck, what are you looking to do with it? First thing I did was de-chrome and tint, then lift and tires. 28k miles is ridiculous...

    Thanks!
33x12.5 bfg on 15x10's. Wheels and spacer lift were on when I bought her. Rims aren't the best fit up front. Had to get longer studs. Using a small 1/4" spacer as well. Plan to change to bolt on spacers. But if you change rims, make sure they will fit. I suggest 32" tires if you go bigger. 33's rub. The 10" deep rims look pretty sick imo. Still not sure on a new lift. I was looking at toytechs ultimate lift with coilovers and some new leafs and lift shackles for back. Depends on your budget. You could go dirt cheap and get spacers and blocks but it's gonna be a rough ride. As well as put more stress on your other components.

Next up would be to get something like the bilstein or ome struts with lift coils. Aal for back if you tow/ haul anything. Or shackles if not. This is what I suggest for yours. A decent upgrade without changing/hurting much/ breaking the bank... Should fit 32's no problem.

The full coilover kit and new leafs is if you plan to do any kind of serious offroading with her. That's my take on it anyways.. Lots of info in the suspension section. Look through the stickies at top. There's a nice one that explains all the lifts and benefits/cons of each..

I also got some camburg uca's. But I'm unsure if those will be necessary depending on what you go with.. Some have issues some don't. With my spacer lift the PO installed, the stock uca's were clanking against the coils. So I decided to make that upgrade to future proof it anyways.. Plus they're just plain badass:D

You could even do the tundra brake upgrade if you stick with 16" rims. I'd like to but I can't give up my 15x10's;)

Oh and one last thing I can think of for tires, is a tpms kit. I've got one and it's awesome. Not sure what's available now, I can look if you want but, I got mine on Amazon fairly cheap and had big o tires install the sensors for me.

Keep in mind I'm no expert. Still learning as I go. Thanks to all the great guys/gals here at TW. Just read your heart out. Tons and tons of threads and info. And tons of guys that'll help along the way...
