2015 TRD Sport: what lift do I want!?

    Just got a red 4 door long box TRD sport and want a lift for it. I have realized that the Toytec BOSS lift 3" is the way to go for a small lift, but will I ever think that is is too small? The pics don't look to different but some 6" lifts look like too much. With a 3" I'm going to run the 18" fuel assault rims, and some 33" atturo trail blade MT tires. Thinking of 35s with a regear on a 6". Obviously look and performance are my key deciders but how hard is the frame cutting and welding to do? Any comments would be great. Trying to go for the same look as the APEX off-road tacoma. If you can help me out on what they did.

    Also, any good place to get the new gears? And that's what I'm thinking taczilla but the install is what I'm dabbling on, with the welding, grinding, and regear, will the 6" be worth it. Will the BOSS lift ever be not enough? My terrain is heavy mud and DEEP snow. If that's operant info. And what 6" would you all go with? I'm overwhelmed with dreams since I found this site.

    I'm not aware of any 6" lift that you have to weld to get on. You have to cut the cross member but that's it.

    The only welding I can think of is some of the guys having to do the cmc with 35s on their 6" lifts. I could be wrong, but that's what I'm guessing.

    As far as that goes you might very well have to do it on a 3" lift with 33's too.

    So the cutting the cross member is easy, but would that weld support the larger tires on the axle better? Not sure what that would do. But I want a nice look, and my main concern is that the 3" lifts don't seems to look much different than stock. But I don't wanna have problems, I want this lift to be stable and more of an upgrade. Did torsion keys on my ranger and had nightmares later on.

    Yeah, I don't necessarily think he was directing the "cutting and welding" to either lift.

    The 6" lifts have a new cross member (Drop Bracket) that goes in place of the stock one. You have to cut the stock one out so the new one has room to go in there.

    You might want to check out the difference between a stock one and a 3" lift. The 3" makes them look a lot bigger next to a stock truck. Between the lift and the tires (33") you are looking at about 4" difference.

    Toytec just came out with a 1" body lift. That, with a 3" suspension lift could have potential. I wouldn't ever do more than 1", but it's not that much and could bring 35's into the picture.

    spunds like you know what you're talking about. So personally do you think a 6" is too big or a 3" is too small? I want to use the Apex off-road tacoma build as a model.

    Heard to never stack lifts, but I wanted to do something like that.

    Really depends what your use of the truck will be. Generally the 3" is considered a better lift. You are going to get about the same clearance with both of them due to the drop bracket. The 6" would give minimal additional clearance with the 35" tires. Most of the guys you see on here doing the hardcore off road stuff are on a 3" lift.

    It looks like both of the trucks you are talking about (Blue Taco and White Taco) are running long travel setups not drop bracket lifts.

    That's not considered stacking two lifts if you do a body lift. Stacking is where you do a suspension lift and then put a spacer lift on top of the shock itself for more lift.
