All right - got the truck back. It's not back to pre-accident form yet but at least the truck is back in my driveway. :D

For those of you frequently on this thread - who wants a Brute Force Fab front bumper? It was the one on my truck before the accident. I got a new one from insurance so I'm willing to give the old bumper to one of you. It has to be one of us local folks (not someone from Florida driving through town, for example) and preferably somebody who doesn't have a bumper already. I can take the thing to scrap recycling myself and get a few bucks if I was desperate to get rid of it but I'd rather give it away to somebody who can try to use it. I've looked over the bumper carefully and I really only see one minor area that is affected - it could be a fairly easy repair for someone. I brought the bumper home and was scratching my head for a while wondering if a new bumper was really even necessary. The bumper still lies on the ground perfectly straight. Anyways, you can definitely come by and take a look at it...

quick question for y'all...do regular chains work better on ice or chains with spikes or something?

    All depends:
    • Ladder chains are really good but are a pain to put on, and I've heard they don't work so good for side to side sliding.
    • Quick fit chains like the ones from Schwab's are easy, but weak. To remedy that, you can buy RUD chains, which are made for 4x4. I highly recommend writing or calling them for assistance, they are quick and knowledgeable. Their website is not so easy.
    • If you are going all-out, there's chains similar to what logging crews will use. These typically look like ladder chains, but are heavier and they have spikes. The upside is that they are meant to be used in mud and other such terrain in addition to snow, but they will destroy/get destroyed by road use (IIRC)
Long story short, I recommend the RUD chains. It's doubtful that you can fit them on the front, so just get a rear set.

Thanks for the info...i am going this weekend so kinda tight on time for getting them and unexpectedly snowed a bit where i am going...i will probably go with regular chains for now and upgrade to RUD later..better to have have something then nothing for now.

Okay dudes, taking a shot in the dark here. Installing shocks and coils on my buddy's Tacoma and wheelers off-road sent him a front bilstein shock without the snap ring to hold the perch in place... Anyone have one??
