    :facepalm: deer do not 'dive' into lights, they freeze as their eyes adjust and figure out wth is going on. I'm sure we've established that with researched facts, and experiential data. If you don't blind the deer with your headlights, then they won't freeze momentarily. Honk the horn and scare them into moving, sometimes right into your path. Its really a 50/50 as to which way they will run. Sometimes its across the road to join the rest of their family right in front of you. Best option is to be able to notice the deer, before they notice you, (ie you need headlights) so you can take action such as slow down in a hurry, so you and the deer have more time to decide which way y'all are going to move to avoid a collision.

    Well, I'm wondering why you like to sneer at me and ridicule me all over the board publically but won't do the same in private. Doesn't say much for your character, pretty much points to a lack of backbone. Same goes for Oz. If you have any problem with me feel free to reply to my PM's, we'll settle our differences there.

    For this ongoing deer avoidance debate, I searched and found this https://www.geico.com/information/publications/newsletter/2009/deer-safety/ There are other similar recommendations.

    "Deer can become mesmerized by steady, bright lights so if you see one frozen on the road, slow down and flash your lights. Some experts recommend one long blast of the horn to scare them out of the road, as well."

    That's about what I've been saying all along. Myself I use all those recommendations, use the brights as much as I can. If there is a deer or two in the middle of the road I shut the lights off momentarily and honk the horn. If you don't want to use that method, don't do so, but don't get up on a pedestal and say it is preposterous.

    I'd say the best bet is when you must drive in an area with a high deer population its best to simply drive slower in those areas the times of day they are most active. And even avoid certain routes.

    Where I live there are some real hot spots including a section of interstate. I will actually just avoid the interstate section during deer active times of day it is that bad there are always carcuses of deer hit by big rigs. On the highways I'll drive slower and try to spot the eyes. More than once I've seen a deer stopped let it move along then soon as I start off here's his pal trotting across.

    So just drive slow and look you can buy the tougher bumpers but be ready Murphy's law says that when you have a bumper the deer will run into you broadside instead.

    Wildlife on roadways is just a problem you have to mitigate via multiple means. When I see an animal on the side of the road I go ahead and assume that it will run in front of or into me. I apply the same assumption to pedestrians and vechiles on side roads.
