Good luck getting your leaks, HVAC, and transmission fixed. The brutality of issues the twins have been having has kept me in Toyota. Test drove the Canyon three times, and each time something was broken.

Kettle, let's not call the pot black....the Tacoma has had it's fair share of flaws and RECALLS too. Comparing a first model year truck to a seasoned 10 year design isn't fair. Comparing it to a 2016 design that HASN'T HIT THE MARKET YET is just downright foolish. ;)

True enough. However, this site does have a Toyota lean to it...

Having closely compared it to the 2015, though, I thought the SR5 I test drove was head and shoulders more solid than the Canyon SLE.

I think the 2016 will make a nice stormtrooper with the grill blacked out. It'll actually look like a stormtrooper!

That GMC is a nice looking truck. The big thing for me is (historically speaking anyway) is the initial price on something like that vs the expected depreciation will almost certainly be brutal compared to the Tacoma. I have to factor that in making a $40k buy & at this point it doesn't add up for me.

I am sure there are other people out there getting sick of having no new information on the new Taco and just saying "screw it" and getting a Colorado.

The 1st gen and 2nd gen GM twins share the same names but that's pretty much it. GM crapped the bed big time with the 1st gen trying to come in with some new 5 cylinder trash with "fuel economy of a 4 cyl and power of a 6". They screwed up. But at the very least the 3.6L in the new truck has been around for a little while in other GM products. The same cant be said for the 2.5 gen Tacoma.

I previously owned a 2009 Tacoma Sport that was a great truck. Probably the best truck I have ever owned. I used to post in this forum but stopped when I sold the 2009 Tacoma when I retired and bought a new 2015 GMC Canyon SLT. I'm not going to bash the Canyon as it was a nice truck but I had some issues with it that GM said were normal. Well it wasn't normal to me.

Yesterday, I went to my local Toyota Dealership and ordered a new 2015 Tacoma Sport. I could have waited for the all new 2016, but decided that the 2nd generations are great trucks, are proven to be reliable, dependable, plus I loved my 2009. If the 2016's are fantastic and I just can't live without one, I can always get one later.

I ordered a TRD Sport, Blue Ribbon Metallic, short bed, 4x4 with the JBL and Navigation. Should get it in a month or so. Can't wait. I miss my Tacoma.

Congrats on the new truck OP. I love the look of the GMC. Funny how it is almost identical to the Chevy, but I will never buy a Chevy while I will seriously consider the GMC. Same for the full size ones.
Anyway, ignore the few haters and enjoy the new truck. Do stay active here and report back every now and then - good or bad, so we can learn from real-world experience.

If you don't mind me asking what were the issues you had with the Canyon?

I can say that before Toyota announced the new tacoma I was going to buy a new Colorado. Test drove it and loved it. Interior was really nice. But then I heard about the issues, and about the new Tacomas release, and was like....well...guess I will still wait for the Toyota. Congrats on the new truck. I hope out services you well.

For me the truck was going to be all about off road and camping, and so the Tacoma pretty much won by default even though it is far from the perfect truck. For a DD it is certainly worth considering the other mid-size options. The Colorado/Canyon is a new platform which is always a risk, and the first generation was a disaster which tarnished the brand name. But that doesn't guarantee the new Colorado/Canyons will given any one person problems any more than Tacoma (2nd or 3rd gen for that matter) will be problem free for any one person.

Congrats on the new truck, sounds like it is just what you were looking for!

I think those issues, while concerning, have been completely overblown. Which could be said for most automotive forums.

Wasn't that nice compared to what? I've driven practically every truck on the market and the Canyon's interior compares very well. It's certainly MUCH nicer than the current Tacoma's.

While I agree that interior doesn't look very nice, what does that have to do with the Canyon or Colorado? Are you claiming they look similar? I haven't spent much time in a Colorado, but can say without hesitation that the Canyon has a very nice interior.
