I'm always down to fish. Probably taking my kayak down that way sometime soon too. I'll be out for that weekend. I'm getting my motorcycle license on that Saturday.

I live about 20min from Tar Hollow and my father in law lives about 4 miles from it on Charleston Pike. I have never heard of any off road areas out there before.

I'll keep asking around in the Chillicothe area to find something. I would t want to do anything too crazy though.

Sry Micah but I won't be in Ohio during June. I have some errands to run out West including Rock Therapy, a friend's wedding, and picking up my bike! Back in July however and willing to have a meet with some Penn brothers sometime mid-late month.

@intoit247 I see you're in Cleveland, I'm Columbus area and willing to drive 1.5-2 hours for some fishing/hiking/wheeling fun. Basically if you drew lines between Columbus, Bowling Green, Cleveland, and New Philadelphia you'd have an area I'd being willing to drive anywhere in! I'll do some searching and see if i can;t find a cool spot to hang out. How old's the young gun?

I just found a group in my area (Chillicothe) called Southern Ohio Jeepers. I was actually behind one of their jeeps and saw their little sticker they have on this jeep.
Anyways, I'm going to try and find out where they go wheeling at when I get time.

@jamiec I saw a jeep with that sticker before but couldn't remember what it said. I'm fine with the area that @WheelInTheSky said. Even a little further if it's worth the drive.

^^^ either the weekend of the 24th or the 31st would be possible.

@intoit247 @ogg Given that none of us seem to know any wheelin spots, let's pick a place for tomorrow where we could chill outdoors and slide around on some gravel. If it's a fishing spot, even better! My gear is a bit of a mess from the move I made back from Cali anyway, so I could use a light fishin day to get organized for future outings..

I work at 4, so let's have a place pinned down by then so I don't get back on after midnight and start blowing this thread up:thumbsup:

So last week when I made the trip down to Tar Hollow to do some recon, it looks like I was right around the area that Southern Ohio Jeepers likes to go. Must have missed these trails by a half a mile..

That looks like a good spot! Is this on the vinton county side of tar hollow? The next time you come down this way let me know and I'll go with you. The only problem I have is my schedule. I work a southern swing shift and have random days off and get 1 weekend off a month. My next weekend off is June 6-9.

I just looked at the Jeepers website and they they have an address to a place they go in tar hollow. Maybe we could check it out. The address is 16396 Tar Hollow Road
    Laurelville, Oh

    ^^^you're on!

unfortunately I'll be leaving OH on the 25th and won't be back until July but I'm free any day you want to head to the Hollow outside of that gap.

NEWS FLASH!!! ..lol found some good links on this site: http://www.lakecountyoffroad.org/links.htm#Trails <3 Hours gasline and powerline look promising. according to gasline's FB page and powerline's website they are both open all of labour day weekend. Would consider hitting one of them up if others were interested.

@intoit247 @ogg ..idc where we go if you guys want to meet tomorrow pick literally any location and I'll drive there to chill with y'all for most of the day. Fishing, driving, eating food.. it doesn't matter. I get off work around 12 tonight so if you post a location before you go to sleep I'll see it after I get off and make sure to head there tomorrow.:burnrubber:

Late to the party, sorry. In in New Philly. Are you wanting to do exclusively trails or more of a loop with abandoned roads and such? I have kind of a fun loop of probably 75% gravel, 5% pavement, and 20% trails and abandoned roads that is a lot of fun. Starts in Uhrichsville and winds around 4 counties and ends up at Wills Creek off SR83 south of Coshocton and there is enough stuff there to get you in trouble if you want to. All legal, and totally free. That would take the better part of a day.

    Edited to add:

    After reading the whole thread;

For you guys lamenting the lack of free off road opportunities, I strongly encourage you to seek out the under developed counties and procure a county map from the engineer's office. An actual paper map, not some online shit. Most of these Appalachian foothill counties have a lot of abandoned roads and those are a great start to exploring and light 4 wheeling.

I'll throw a few at you central guys (without giving away all my secrets) and you can thank me later:

Knox County: Bat's Nest Rd (I've seen Jeeps roll sideways off the road from a deep rut), Stone Quarry Rd (creek crossing, technical climb, lots of fun), Turkey Ridge Rd (closed section) (closest town is Glenmont), any gravel road in the Muskingum Watershed District off of SR715 (closest town is Millwood, Mohawk Dam)

Tusc County: Winding Stair Rd (closest town is Port Washington), and Larsen Rd

Guernsey County: any township road in Linton Twp, and Bird Rd, Standing Rock Rd, Early Cemetery Rd

Harrison County: Freeport TR 107, and Oak Hill Rd

For a bitching offroad area check out Wills Creek, run 83 out of Coshocton south until you actually cross Wills Creek, then skip the first road on the right (Wills Creek Rd) and turn right on the second, unmarked road going up a hill. That one will require winching to get up... but there are other ways into the area that won't and you can easily scope it out via Google Earth / maps. Actually, that road may not be passable in the truck, I have to get out and reevaluate it for deadfall and ruts. You can also fish and camp anywhere at Wills Creek.

I also have a great 90 mile loop out of Danville (45 mi north of Columbus) that I do on my enduro, it would be pretty technical in a 4WD....

To be fair most of my off road stuff I do in the truck is places I have previously explored on my little 250 enduro, which is a lot more stealthy, easier to drag around, etc. If I find roads / trails that are big enough for the truck then in inclement weather I often come back in it to bang around. So maybe randomly exploring in the truck isn't the best idea to keep you out of trouble on unscouted roads.

I'm not really opposed to running a train of Tacomas down any of these roads or through my loops, but I've never done that before. I either ride my enduro by myself, or with a small cadre of others with similar skill; or I drive my truck by myself. I guess I would need to know your skill level, equipment, and expectations before committing to dragging strangers around some highly rural places.
