No delusions about price on my end as if I can't find a '16 Tacoma that'll work for my needs then I'm going to end up paying much more for an F-150 I have in my head as a Plan-B.

My dilemma in picking one Tacoma model over another.....

    - I HATE leather with a passion (both in terms of lack comfort for the climate I live in & for lack of durability in the climate I live in)
    - I need the higher rear end ratio Swears mentioned would be available in one of his video interviews (I think he said 4:93 would be an option & I tow a boat 3/4ths of the year)
    - I really don't want to budge on HomeLink, it's something I will use multiple times each day
    - I really like the idea of a locker (come in handy on some slick boat ramps I use)
    - I really would prefer having a decent sway bar because of the above

This thread's photos have delivered a bounty of good intel in helping me out though. Why the hell Toyota isn't giving us this info is beyond me. Understand not releasing MPG and HP #s, but when you have trucks out in the wild but no formal info (pictures or general details) it's perplexing. Just glad folks are posting online like they are. Immensely helpful!

Looks great, too bad another slushbox.

All I am waiting to know is if the manual gearbox will be available in the DCSB O/R trim. I really hope so. Seeing a picture of one would appease me.

They have the ect in the the first gen Tacoma's. It just changes the shift points in the tranny to accelerate faster. It holds on to gears longer instead of going into overdrive as fast as possible. I think it stands for electronically controlled transmission.

Leather is so awful? I love it, so easy to clean up after messes be they from yourself, kids, or dogs. Wipe it clean with a wet rag and condition it once a month with saddle soap.

I agree, Leather is really easy to clean up, esp. important since the hound and I go everywhere together...

These newer autos are pretty nice. I got tired of the 6-spd manual for towing especially, man that clutch was burning trying to position the trailer to get it leveled. 127k miles on a 5-spd Aisin with towing and a $300 full flush, I feel comfortable with it lasting another 200k with another flush.

These Aisin autos don't seem to be a point of failure on the Toyotas for a long, long time. The six speed Aisin auto has been in the Tundra for about four years, and it doesn't seem to be a point of failure.

I see that now looking closer. Makes it kind of look like a bit of a hack/patch job. Do you know if that is also planned for production vehicles or if that could be a temp solution that they used building off current production truck till 2016 production is up an running?

The whole 3rd gen is a hack and patch job unfortunately. Toyota had 10 years with the platform, I honestly think GM caught them off their guard which is why the new truck seems like it was rushed.

A few things that I have noticed:
The TRD Sport & TRD Off-Road share the same grill this generation while the Limited gets a unique grill.

The box looks to be 2" deeper as it comes right to the bottom of the back window now, and the back bed rail is now not included while you can still see the mounting locations.

I think I see an LED light that aims towards the wireless cell phone charging area.

He asked what the button to the left of the ECT button was for. yes your right ECT is for the transmission. The BSM button is for Blind spot monitoring.

Toyota has been in flux since that buttkicking 9.0 earthquake and tsunami back in 2011. That earthquake dropped half of the island by 24 inches. That was a buttkicker. A lot of Toyota's R&D was wrecked. They couldn't supply the parts pipeline for a year, much less R&D. I think Toyota had a lot of new designs coming up, then bam, one of the largest earthquakes in history on the Richter scale slammed Japan. 9.0 is one of the largest earthquakes in history on the Richter scale.

I remember that, I also remember that dealers were having a hard time allocating supply and selling at msrp cause of it.

Love the interior...it ALMOST makes me wish I could have waited for a 16. Then again, I'm sure when I see the pricing I won't regret my choice. When I bought mine the dealer had not received numbers yet, but said they were told MSRP would be 3-5k more for similar packages. Not sure if he was pulling my leg, but I would believe it.

I would believe it too, there is a market for these trucks even if it encroaches a bit on full size MSRP and all the new goodies on the packages are going to come at a cost. My taco only cost $2k less than my loaded up new Silverado last year after after incentives. Just the way toyotas and midsize trucks are, as much as I love the new interior features, not for the price of a full size and certainly not with the way that front end is right now on the 16's, ill wait for the mid cycle refresh.

I was thinking the same thing. When the time for a new truck comes, and IF i'm still in the midsize market, I will look at the Tacoma after a refresh.

They will sell well even marked up. Looking at the "what did you pay" thread a lot of people didn't hesitate to pay 35k or more. Dare to dream of a pay raise...

Yes, to me living in the desert SW it's awful. It'll burn the shit out of you in summer, then there's the back-sweating issue when jumping in for short trips around the city. Finally, for me the durability is no where near High-Qual cloth. Usually within 5 yrs leather starts showing initial signs of excessive wear & by the 7-10 year point it's cracked or cracking.... No matter how much care & feeding is put into it.

I love the looks of it, but in recent yrs I've owned 2 Hondas & a Mercedes with leather & each had same problematic traits in spite of being garage kept & cleaned / maintained IAW manufacturor's instructions.

everything I see on the interior is what is in the limited trim, but the outside rear doors don't have a limited decal. from what I remember from the press release, PTS was only for the limited trim.

emphasis mine, and I was wrong on the PTS. its the BSM/RCTA and moonroof for the limited.
