Differential Check Plug Stripped - 2004 Taco

I have been told that the rear differential check plug on my 2004 Tacoma is stripped.
Is that a serious problem for leakage? Is the check plug the same as the fill plug? Being a senior it would help to know how serious a problem this is and what can be done about it.

if its stripped.....its probably rounded off around the edges where a socket wont work on it. if you know someone with a welder...get them to weld a small piece of steel pipe onto it and then see if it can be broken free....and order another one from the dealership. and yes.....its the fill plug. its not gonna cause a leak.

 

If the threads got stripped out, it's also gonna be a bitch to get out.

 

Get someone with a welder to weld a piece of pipe like 06 said. If you get a piece of pipe in the shape of T you should have enough leverage to break it loose. It will also make it a lot easier if you heat it up.
