Back to the subject, im planning on doing the oil change and spark plugs this weekend. Do you think the diff service is necessary at 30k? I dont tow and my truck barely sees any off road/dirt roading. Im going to wait on the air filters till after the pollen dies down a bit.

Yes would do the diff at 30k, just check your air filter mine was like new even after 20k...depends on where you live and what you do with the truck

I'm looking to go synthetic all around, I heard AMSoil somewhere on the Forum.
Is this good oil, have any other suggestions ?

I just did my oil (I know the 30k service is more than just oil) and I definitely am reconsidering doing it on my own now. I've usually stopped by an oil change place at lunch. Quick, easy, a little expensive, but seemed reasonable... I usually pay $75-80 for a full synthetic change with filter, which is normally a Valvoline high-mile 5w-30. I wanted to try a different route this time and went with Shell Rotella T6 (5w-40) for the truck and overall it was about $50 exactly in oil + filter from my local advance auto parts. That's a delta of $20 in labor for me to do it vs someone else. Considering I was in work clothes, had to go home and change and then make a 10 minute drive to my parents (they have a car hoist), spend 20 minutes changing the oil (got a little dirty), and drive home another 10 minutes, and now I have to find a way to properly dispose of the oil.

Overall, pain in the ass to save $20... Like others have said, it's your call, but I think I'm going to be sticking with someone else doing my oil at this rate lol

    ???
you can buy the oil (I use mobile1 full syn) at Walmart for ~$30 the filter/gasket is $7 @ Toyota so the delta can be much more than $20 ;)
But the used oil back in the container and drop it off at any auto parts store for free.

With a delta of ~$40 for 20min-not bad :) $160 per hour or ~$333k a year...if I can get 24 people to come over each day to get their oil changed - I'll do it for $40 :woot:

Hey guys just to bring this thread back to life again sounds like, I was just at the stealership for my 30k service and got quoted a ridiculous amount for the service. I understand its a few things that have to be done, but they said it would take them about 4-6 hours so just looking at their preferred list I think i can get most of the stuff done in about a day and save myself a couple hundred bucks. Anything that I'm missing that is too hard for an average guy with very slightly above average technical knowledge about these trucks?

what in the world is that...they must be drinking too much power steering fluid at autonation

a lot of the stuff you read there is upsell BS that doesn't even get performed or will be halfassed. It's actually almost stealing...install "windshield washer solvent" LOL

That's what I was thinking as well. I can get the oil, filers, spark plugs, and anything else for a couple hundred at most and save me some money for half a lift kit with their pricing.

I think they are looking to make money back on the first few "free" services that the other service "techs" messed up on anyway by leaving an oil can in the engine bay and getting oil all over my engine....

Yeah that's nuts. Aside from my push mower, the Tacoma v6 is the easiest spark plug replacement I have ever done.

I wouldn't say it is super easy, but it's not difficult either. The driver's side is the pain considering there are so many hoses and such in the way. Other then that, it's good to go.
