Son of a mother bleep :annoyed::mad::rant:

Started to replace be LBJ's today and stopped before I ever got started. I've soaked the threads in PB Blaster for the last week or two. I jacked up the truck, took of the tire, removed the tie rod, went to remove the first LBJ bolt and SNAP!!!

Now I've got a  bolt sheared off in the knuckle.

Any ideas besides drowning my sorrows in alcohol?

I've had it happen before too. I spun the bolt out the other direction (upward) with vice grips on the top of the threads

IIRC the bolts only start to thread into the spindle, not the LBJ. So if you remove the LBJ there should be a fair amount of bolt left to grab with vise grips or bolt extractor. Maybe use some heat

No joy on the vice grips. I locked them down tight and stripped off the threads of the bolt trying to remove it. Looking at the other viewable bolts and it looks like they are rusted solid into the knuckle. I don't want to try another bolt for fear of shearing them off too. As it stands right now, I have 3 bolts holding the LBJ on.

X2 this is what I had to do. Heat and Dremeled a slit in the bolt since I didn't have vise grips

You are going to need to get them out regardless. There is a fair amount of force on those bolts and 3 wont do, something very bad could happen if they snap at the wrong time.

And if you ruined the threads on the top of the bolt you now have to take it out from the top. If you go the other way the spindle's threads will be screwed and a new bolt won't go back in.

I know. Question now is whether IF I can get it out or if I need a shop to tap it out.

So do I. If I could've found an older pickup that wasn't rotten I would've got it instead of my 1st gen.

Only way i could even get mine to budge was with heat and lots of it. Get the other 3 out and go from there. Might have to take spindle off and grind down the top of the bolt where you stripped threads.
