    WD40 works also

Edit: I'm reading the thread backwards. WD40 was already mentioned.

On the other hand, you'll probably gain 1-2 mpg after shedding all that mud weight

This is the first I've ever heard of this as well. I spent alot of time looking at pictures of people's aux fuse panels on here before I built mine and almost everyone had them mounted the same way I do. Is vertical better because it keeps water out better? Or is it actually better for the relay itself?

Plenty of manufacturers mount relays horizontally from the factory. Here's a pic I found from a quick googlemachine search:

    IMG_3181_551d43ec3d02b7a4e267f8555ab217bf5507bea8.jpg

I think the pic is from a Nissan Maxima. I'm not saying you're wrong I've just never heard this before so I'm curious to learn more.

Finally installed my Grid-It. Probably went overboard with 4 strips of 'EXTREME VELCRO', but oh well - never know when I'll need to strap 30lbs to the underside of my center console. I think my UltraFire flashlight will fit horizontal across instead of the longer (and not as bright) as the Mini-Mag, so going to try reorganizing things later to fit better and more stuff.

N-fabs, BakFlip VP, power tailgate lock, bed lights, "raptor" grill lights. Standard mall crawler stuff.
It's not that they don't work, it's that in the engine bay mounted vertically they are less likely to get water in them, from the bottom, which is not always sealed 100%.

That and I read somewhere that it's better for the internal switch. Especially for offroading, and the bumps you wouldn't want the switch to bump off or on. Sometimes such a bump caused the switch to "weld" in that position. Vertical was the least likely position for something like that to happen.

I just installed one of these in my console top. The 5 1/2 in x 10 1/2 inch grid it fits perfect, the only thing you need to do is make a couple 1/2 inch cut outs for the console hinges. 2015 Taco.
