You can go to the Colorado/Canyon Forums and read all about the transmission shifting issues. Mine is really bad. GM says it is normal shift points to get best fuel economy. I could say a lot more but you can read about the other problems for yourself. GM said that there was nothing they could do. I said that there was something that I could do and ordered a new Tacoma.

I hadn't really seen much conversation on their forums about this, and haven't experienced it myself.

Please compare my 2005 Tacoma (first model year) to ANY 2005 Colorado you can find (I'll even give them the benefit of 2nd model year, they came out as 2004).... you'll understand why a Toyota is a Toyota and people FOR GOOD REASON are extremely hesitant about the new twins....

Chevy fans can do mental gymnastics all they want but I guarantee you in 2-3 years you're going to see the new Tacoma vs new Colorado is going to be the same old battle that was already decidedly won by Toyota. Chevy Volt was supposed to be a Prius killer, every single one I've ever sent to auction lost us money even though I'd take them in way back of book, no one wants that POS.
Chevy Traverse was Consumer Reports top pick in 2014... now it it goes for $2k back of book at auction because it always has high ROs agaisn't Toyotas and Hondas, if it were a rav4, crv, pilot, highlander it would go for full book all day long...

And thats why my 10 year old Tacoma with 100k miles is still worth $17k (I could get that TODAY)... you know how much my roommates 2006 Colorado with only 86k miles is worth?? He's been trying to sell it for $12k ($2k below private party book) for over a month and no bites. Carmax offered him $9k lol. They were within $900 of the same MSRP new and my older tacoma with more miles is now worth almost twice as much.

"but but but thats old news! These are totally new trucks! It'll be different this time!" Some people just don't know the car business very well lol. But I'll happily admit I was wrong if I'm proven otherwise... I deal with used cars everyday and knowing GM/Chevy, I won't hold my breathe :)

Yes, because the quality of a product can never change over the years, for better or for worse.

Although I question their methodology since they have little to base it on, most publications and websites are projecting a very good resale value for the GM twins, often behind only the Tacoma and Wrangler.

I am speaking from experience. I have been driving a Canyon SLT since November 6th. I gave GM another chance. My truck stickered for over 40,000. I really wanted to love this truck. Am I asking too much that when I push on the gas pedal that the truck responds and accelerates? Mine can't decide what gear it needs to be in and hesitates for several seconds, lunging and jerking. Very annoying and disappointing. Heck, my wife even notices it and wants me to drive her Highlander when she is with me. I am at the point in my life that I can drive whatever truck I want. My 2009 Tacoma drove circles around my Canyon. I will be glad when my 2015 gets here.

I was in touch with a Chevy dealership and they sold my Colorado the night before I got there. Z71 V6 Extended Cab long bed 4x4. I found its clone 3 hours away and was going to get it. Hadn't sat in one so I went to another close by dealer first and drove a Z71 with the 4 cyl. Interior and exterior were very pleasing. I'm 6'1/2" and ~270 lbs. I can't sit in the seat! The front bolster cushion doesn't adjust and the circulation in my legs was cut off. I was hoping it wasn't true. It was. I told the dealers about it and there's nothing they can do. It would be a daily driver and even take 8 hour trips. I like your Canyon and am glad this wasn't an issue for you. Looks like the Gen 3 Tacoma for me.

The gaps....I driven the Colorado and the interior is quite but the design is already outdated and cheap looking (not cheap feeling materials)

It's too bad we couldn't just congratulate OP and this had to turn into a thread about why the Canyon/Colorado isn't as awesome as a Tacoma.

I truly hope the OP has zero issues with his new Canyon. I was just pointing out my experience driving one. I doubt that there are other members on this Tacoma forum that have driven 10,000 miles in a Canyon like I have. I kind of know what I'm talking about.

Congrats OP and I hope your truck is everything you hoped for. It is a shame people are bashing OPs truck, but he did post in a tacoma forum. Regardless of whether it is true with their new vehicles, Chevy has a bad reputation/taste in people's mouth with bad ignitions causing deaths, government bailouts and in the past producing junk cars. It's hard to change a brand image.

Have you considered the Trifecta demo tune? It will recalibrate your shift points so as they are not so premature just for maximum MPG. Besides, it's free. I know the argument that it should have come that way from the factory yada yada yada but the potential is there.

I loved my '12 TRDOR I had for a year! Loved it! One problem, the AC quit working in it, leaked all the antifreeze out at 21,000 miles. No biggie, right? RONG! Dealership jerked me around bad, attempted to fix it FOUR times. Never did or never could, who knows. Called Toyota and explained what was up and their answer was "sorry, that's between you and your dealer". But my dealer sucks and is bunch of morons! Took it to another Toyota dealer. They told me I'd be without my truck for at least 2-3 weeks since I didn't buy it from them. Took my Tacoma and traded it in on a Z71 that day and never looked back. Love Tacoma's, hate Toyota and Toyota dealerships. Toyota lost my business for good.

If you never look back why are you on a Tacoma site? Seems like that's looking at your past a bit ;).

Pointing that out aside, really at the end of the day it's the dealership that will make or break a vehicle. Even the best cars and trucks have the occasional failure. If the dealer looks after those customers the brand tends to grow in that area. If the dealer is shit, well it doesn't matter what quality he's selling if he can't back up the one's that inevitably go bad.

BTW I meant no offense to the OP on choosing the Canyon/Colorado. My wife and I test drove them for her next vehicle and ended up with an F150 because it was less money for more truck in a similar package. I was simply pointing out that if anyone honestly things these trucks are going to hold there value like a 2nd generation Tacoma they are nuts. The reputation on these trucks is bad, can't fix the past image in 2-3 years, and for GM fans they will always come 2nd to the full sized models. I would be willing to be good money that the Colorado/Canyon will depreciate at about the same rate as it's larger cousin, since most people buying them will be comparing the full sized price to the mid sized price.

I still enjoy reading posts here and talking about Tacoma's and seeing pics and keeping up with the '16's. Like I said, I'm a Tacoma fan through and through, my dealership just left a very bad taste in my mouth. Toyota wasn't much help either. A rep should have contacted me at least for visiting the dealership four times for the same warranty issue. I wasn't even wanting a buyback or a trade, just quit screwing around and fix my AC! They threw parts at it, even told me twice to come in first thing in the morning so they could put more antifreeze in it but when I'd show yo(taking time off work) they'd claim it was too cool or too humid or some stupid excuse as to why they couldn't fix it even though they'd told me to come in at that time. It's nuts that the AC went out on such a new truck but that's what the warranty is for, I was just fed up with the dealership trying to jerk me around. I bet the day my warranty expired they'd have fixed it and charged me out the wazoo!

Fully support buying what feels best for you - personally I wouldn't buy a GM anything. Sometimes the smart thing is to look past the styling and paint, put a higher priority on dependability and reliability. If GM has that solved, it will be a first. Look at any of their previous small trucks or small cars as proof. Resale value? Dependability? Reliability? Functionality? Longevity? Quality of build? All below Toyota, Nissan, and even ford.

I know they are two different platforms, but some things never change. Gm and there horrible customer service pushed me away and into my Tacoma and you couldn't pay me to go back. I had only ever owned Chevy trucks until that pos Colorado and then saw the light. Wait 3 years and report back, I hope the op has good luck but with the stuff gm turns out we shall see.
