I really wanna get a camper like the one in this photo for the Taco. Doesn't the top of those things pop up so you can sleep up there? Wonder how much they cost. Any ideas of best places to look for something like that? That thing would be perfect for a trip like this, nothing to worry about towing behind on those bad roads, and nothing too wide to drive (like an RV or whatever).

This is another side trip we've been wanting to do in that general area, but it's the same dilemma as Chalk Basin. You'd have to spend at least one night there (no decent lodging within a reasonable drive time, it's a teeny ghost town nestled way up in the southwestern ID wilderness). But it's an old gold mining town (Silver City, ID) and they still have this super old hotel there with no electricity, check it out:

Appraisal tonight at 5:30. Please, everyone on TW, cross your fingers and toes for us that it goes the way we want it to!! Could be very helpful for us after all the "Taco special needs" funding the last 6 months!! I've been telling the neighbors about it coming up, and my favorite smart ass neighbor told me he'd be sure to put an old chair and some garbage of some kind in his front yard today, to make it look extra special

And now, I will begin cleaning like a crazy missing electrode lady

    :D

PS: Where the heck has @keakar been lately? I need to know if he's down with manning the moonshine tent, STAT! :drunk:

EDIT: Here's a pic of the Succor Creek area, an example of a place you could set up camp. But they have some slightly developed sites closer to the creek too, with tables and stuff.

    DSCF5492.jpg

Can't you guys picture a giant circle of Toyotas around that fire pit, and a giant beer/whiskey tent with a drunk Koditten serving it up? Sounds like a good time to me : )

Or you can camp here at Leslie Gulch, with the bighorns, right next to the Owyhee River. It's so pretty down there.

    Yeah.
Jen, put a rack on your topper and mount a roof top tent up there. Then you have plenty of room in the truck for all your gear. I think Bobby at CVT (Cascadia Vehicle Tents) is in Bend and you would save quite a bit on shipping if you can pick it up. I got in on the group buy a couple of years ago, it's a perfect setup.

So jelly! 17 yr old truck looks like a 4 yr old Michigan truck! We need to move out that way just to escape the evil salt that this state is In love with.

At long last it looks like your good to go.

My the under side of your truck looks new !!

I really don`t see the appeal of camping but then I have always lived in the country .

Growing up with no indoor plumbing and no hot water but for what was heated on the wood stove in the kitchen.

I really love hot water and showers .

My first flush toilet at school was quite interesting but scary as well.
