Not quite sure this is the best forum to ask this (maybe lighting?) but would like input on how to access these switch blanks; both the upper and lower set.

I want to modify one to add a momentary SPST for the garage door opener (will add write up to cheap/free mods thread)

I need to access/remove the fog switch as I believe the wiring for the added on foglights has been done incorrectly.

Does the lower light gray panel remove easily or something?

Are there any pre wired plugs behind the panel that will serve some yet uninstalled accessory? I don't think my fogs were prewired ('13 base) but the truck was pre wired for the rear camera, so who knows what else is there?

And if there are some pre wired harness bits, does anyone have photos with them labeled for what they are?

    TIA!

For me, the easiest way to access the lower blanks is to remove the coin tray and then pop them out from the inside!

on the top ones you need a flat screwdriver or a blade to get them out!

(at least that's what I did!)

If you are going to be drilling into them to install a switch anyway, you can just drill a pilot hole, install a screw 1/2" in or so, and then pull the screw / attached panel out with pliers.

If you want to keep the panels intact, the lower ones are accessed by dropping the coin tray, then you can reach up behind and push out the mirror switch, and then you can reach into the mirror switch hole and push out the other lower panels.

Upper ones are more tricky, I push out the lower panels first and then fish a appropriately bent stout wire (the kind used to suspend drop ceilings) into the opening and poke up, and poke out the upper panels from the back. They are hard, you got to put some ass into it.

Don't try to pry them from the front as they are seated to deep and will scratch up.

    Thanks guys.

Was successful at getting lower out and installing my 'remote' garage door opener switch.

Found a thread that shows how to remove the lower panel altogether so the upper area can be accessed. I really only need to pull the fog switch (so I can figure out what the PO messed up) so maybe I can do that w/o dropping the whole panel. Will give it a go.

    Thanks for your help!

    sorry, you misread.

    1) truck is a base. I can find no prewiring. Hopefully I need to look harder

    2) Fogs are added and wired to battery. So even if it is prewired, it's currently wired wrong anyway. There is a relay underhood and underdash. It certainly doesn't require two.

    3) my understanding is the switch shown isn't even a Tacoma switch, as it has an 'on' indicator light. Which is fine. I like this one better anyway.

If ya do it right u can run/hide plenty of wire back there and make use of those plugs.

    I turned this mess

I also moved the diff lock to a different location far away from the foglight switch as it was easy to hit the wrong one before
