Sorry to hear that, mate. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

I'm a big fan of bulk protein cooking for that reason (among others)

But a large hunk of beast, bring it home, portion & freeze. Then, once a week, take out a 4 pound chunk and toss that bad boy in the crock (post sear, of course) with just the basics of mire poix and some garlic powder. Per plate, it doesn't get much cheaper.

Also, the family packs of chicken drumsticks are like 1.69 a pound. I pick up about 5 pounds of them every week and bake them on the weekend. Two a day in the lunch box is darn good eatin' and dirt cheap, when paired with (for instance) a simple pasta & sauce

The family packs are usually a bit cheaper for everything. I usually get a giant pack of boneless skinless chicken breasts and break them up at home before freezing them. I also get the giant pack of burger, brown it all up and freeze it. One five pound pack of burger will last me a month for various meals.
Biggest money saving tips for groceries: plan out your meals for the week, make a list based on those meals and stick to it, watch the ads and stock up on pantry items when they're on sale, and ask the butcher when they mark down the "day old" meat - easy to save quite a bit that way.

Also finding tons of recipes and meal plans on pinterest - things like 10 days of meals for $80. Usually requires one whole day dedicated to prepping and freezing meals.

I am in IT, I work doing Computer Operations. I monitor all the servers and vitals for a marketing company. Working on my Rez and my LinkedIn

We have been trying to plan meals before we go shopping and stuff but it never works... We also try to find meals on Pintrest because we seem to cook the same things over and over again... and as some of you may remember for my plea of free "just had a baby food" my daughter is now 4 months old. I get a parting gift and until July 31st to find a new job. Im hoping i get a job i can start in Aug so i still get my "sorry were firing you" check

This is one of the reasons to make a meal plan for the week and shop for it and stick to it.

It's not that hard to get into the habit, but you DO need to try. You can't accidentally start doing it. But I can promise you, with 5 nines of certainty, it WILL help with your budget, your variety, AND your cooking skills as you'll be working with more new ingredients and techniques regularly.

I do a week at a time like Weesa does, and look at the store circular. Break down bulk purchases and freeze portions. You save sooo much money overall.

Once you get the hang of it there are a lot of bonuses to planning out your week - no standing in front of the fridge wondering what to make, no rushing to the grocery store after work trying to pick up this or that, no freezer burned mystery meat showing up buried in the back corner of the freezer. And I try to leave a night or two open for something unplanned - thaw out some chicken and decide later to grill it or bake it or whatever...

    I like that ^....

We were going to Sams club and buying bulk meats and putting them in the freezer bags in portion sizes. But we kinda stopped doing that because things have been crazy busy since baby got here...

I will have to sit down with the Wifeski and work on this.

I have never even considered freezing an egg before right now. So, thanks.

That said, I didn't know you could freeze bacon until a couple years ago....so, I'm kind of a dipshit some times

if liquids expand as they freeze i would think the egg would break open as it froze :notsure:

    That was my thought too.

There's *some* air in an egg that could be compressed a bit as the water in the whites expanded, but not enough I'd think.

However, if there's no definitive answer on this by the time I get home tonight, I'm so putting an egg in a tupperware and putting it in the freezer and timing it.
