Long story short... the dealership is kind of jerking me around trying to locate the truck I want. I happened to be in the showroom and had a few minutes to look around and got stuck in front of an 09 FJ Cruiser. Never considered anything but a pickup....until now. Price difference is negligable. I know what most will say but let me hear your opinions. Thanks.

if you buy a vehicle other than the one you desire, you will regret it. settling for something else is never a good idea. IMO

Honestly, the second I get a car, I'm probably going to sell it, just because it doesn't have a bed on it. I too considered the Fj too before I thought about the tacoma, but after driving a tacoma, I wouldn't consider something else.

Also, if the dealership is jacking you around, then leave and go to another one! Thats EXACTLY what I did. They wouldn't want to locate a DC LB, so I walked out and drove to another dealership, told them what had happened, and they located the truck I wanted! The salesman practically knocked over the chair trying to get to the computer. haha

That choice totally depends on what you are going to use it for. It does not sound like you have given that alot of thought. Unless you need wheels for your daily driver, cool your heels, check out other peeps rigs, and make an informed decison.

The new 4-runner is really sweet too...

I had an FJ and a Taco parked in my driveway. The FJ had 35" tires and a lift on it and was extremely capable off-road. (I sold d-germ the stock wheels)

My wife just stopped having the desire to go wheeling - it turned into a grocery-getter. A 13 MPG grocery-getter that her friends were scared to climb into.

Mine was an 07, and we DID have those wrinkles you get in the "crumple zone". Didn't really have any effect on performance, I just knew they were there.

It was a fun vehicle - we used the roof rack A LOT but it was hard as hell to climb up onto the rear bumper - once you were there, it was GREAT accessing the roof rack because the door, when swung out of the way, left a "chariot-like" opening in the back and made it very easy to get our gear up top.

Storage space in the back is small - even with the rear seats folded down.

Towing - It would pull the gates off of hell, LOL - but was too short to handle long trailers - it got real squirlly with those.. wheel base limitation.

A-TRAC is bomb-diggity. We never got crossed up while roading. The rear locker was awesome to have as well.

We have two kids, and the rear suicide doors were a PAIN. You'd open up one side and there you are - trapped in a little fenced off area between our FJ and the car next to us, LOL

I thought the FJ was pretty bad-ass but with my wife just running "soccer mom" errands, we traded it in on a tiny, gas-sipping, rice burning Nissan Cube, and she's very happy - she also drops the ids off at school and they hop out of the passenger side - which means you have to open the FRONT door, then the rear... ugh.

Think about what you are going to really need and go for it. The decision is yours - don't come back here yelling "Look what you guys made me do!" J/K HAHAHAHAHA

As for me, I'll always be a "pickup man" and my experience with this taco and this forum has probably made me a "Tacoma Pickup Man" LOL

I told my wife if we ever decided to get rid of her 4Runner I would like to get her a FJ! The only reason is because I think they are about the best looking SUV on the road. I have the suicide doors on my Tacoma and I don't think that they are that much of a pain in the ass. I've watched several youtube vids of FJ's 4-wheeling. There is not much those things can't do in the 4WD department.
