You're not making sense to me Larry. The guy got such a deal, that he paid at least the value of 1 yr depreciation less than the vehicle was worth.

The truck is worth more than he paid if the market says it is.

 

It made sense to me too. I know not everyone happens to know a sales manager on a first name basis but the economics of the situation are not that hard to understand.. for some people.

 

It's ironic that a Ford guy finds the concept so unfathomable.

 

Mr Toast got a great deal. But no dealer is going to pay him even the purchase price, let alone a thousand more, in trade.
Not. Going. To. Happen.
Why would they? They can order a fresh 2015 for less.

But hey, if it makes y'all all warm and fuzzy thinkin your 2014 truck is worth a grand+ more than you paid for it...by all means, enjoy your bliss.

What a dealer will give you is not the same as what a truck is worth.

Anyway... I will bow out and you can chalk this up to an internet argument won.

I'm not a Ford guy. But yes, that truck was every bit awesome.

I've had a dozen or more Chevy trucks. 5 or 6 Fords. And 4 Toyota's so far (current is 3rd Tacoma)

No doubt that Tacoma is a great truck. With excellent resale value. But I don't buy into the thought that a 2014 truck bought new in 2014 for 30k is valued at 31+k today.

 

I agree with you man you've had such bad luck with Toyotas it only makes sense that a Ford is better

 

My ex-father-inlaw has had 3 Ford trucks in the past 8 years. He had an F-150 double cab 4WD that developed a rod knock at 70,000 so he traded it in on an double cab F-250 Diesel 4WD loaded. He didn't make it to 100,000 and the tranny went as well as the radiator started leaking. He then traded that in on another F-150 2WD and now with 63,000 on the odometer, there is no compression on cylinder 2. Not good. I have lived long enough and dealt with enough Ford garbage to know better. I am a long time Mopar fan. I love the A-body Darts and Dusters etc… I could have bought a Dodge but I know I would have some stupid problem sooner rather than later so I bought another Toyota. You may have a Ford that lasts forever and thats great but, it's not the norm as with Toyota. There is a reason people stay with Toyota and it's called reliability. Thats the only reason people started buying Japanese cars in the first place because Detroit couldn't even compete with the reliability back in the late 60's early 70's. They do seem to be getting better but give me the proven track record of Toyota any day.

 

Why would they you ask? Easy answer.. to make a sale on a 2016.. Dealers are in the business of selling vehicles not buying them.

Disclaimer: You can NOT do this with a Ford.. You will lose a boat load of money in repair bills and depreciation.

 

A trucks only worth what someone will pay for it....

My uncles ford f150 has only had one issue outside of routine maintenance...the odometer went out at 350k miles.

I love my truck! And it's purdy! That fact that I bought a new one 4 weeks ago for just slightly more then what they are selling for used is great. I normally wouldn't buy new but knowing your not going to take a huge hit the 1st day is great.

I loved my 95 pathfinder 215k and no issues. My Tacoma will go the same distance and more.

 

When you trade in your truck, the dealer is buying it from you.

Of course dealers are in business to sell vehicles. Hey also are business to sell parts and service and financing.

But, in order to stay in business...they have to buy the vehicles they sell. And they will not buy a used vehicle at a higher cost than what they can buy a new one from the manufacturer for.

Again, 30K is an excellent purchase price for a new TRD 4x4 Tacoma. Enjoy it in good health.

 

I got mine for 32. Trd off road 4x4 jbl everything. used they were going for 30 it only made cents to buy new and get what I want. Resale value is high but above purchase price is hard to believe. It may be blue booked out above but nobody will pay that.
