Yeah Craig's list. I couldn't believe it. I picked them up within an hour of finding the listing. The guy actually had two more for sale; I referred one of my friends to the ad who will probably buy the other two.

I'm very happy and look forward to refurbishing them.

It turns out there is some rust on the inside, and I am bummed about that.

I have investigated what it would take to clean them up and unless I get some kind of great deal it's just not going to be worth my time.

I think I'll keep one and use the other for some target practice this weekend.I did give myself an education in gas tank restoration and that was interesting.

 

I'm old, and use what I have a lot. I'd advise that unless the rust is really eating through the can, use them. Just know that you may have to use a screened funnel when you pour out of them. I've probably done that at least a hundred times, various cans. Also, I've heard of people pouring epoxy or polyurethane paint inside, rolling it around and popping the lid to let it cure. Might save a nice can!

 

Kreem makes a kit to refurbish motorcycle tanks that are rusted...runs about 20 bucks. it has an acid wash to get the rust off, then a cleaner then a coating.
