If a tundra fit in my garage... I'd probably get one..

Until I get a new house.. Tacoma will be the vehicle of choice.. And the 2016's fit my needs perfectly

This is exciting. The all new, 4 banger, with gasoline direct injection. 2TR FSE. Yes ! Yes!

    Wait....wut?

We "...did make some friction reducing changes internally that will help improve fuel economy."

    It's got Slick50.

    Going 7GR. Ain't lookin' back.

I've got an open mind towards choosing the 4 cylinder as long as its available in the OR version, access cab. Maybe a tiny bit better mpg, cheaper, proven. I rarely would tow. Worked fine in my '02, should be OK mated to the 6spd auto.

DON'T SAY THAT! Certainly something I don't want to hear as the current truck barely holds the interstate as is

Yeah. 740k miles on my '05 2TR FE 5 spd.
Mega durability. I enjoyed running throught the gears.

    I am guessing 27 mpg 4 cyl. 25 mpg 6 cyl. 7GR is very tempting. MT/AT IDK.

Think about it more, seems unlikely the 4cyl with be available in any sort of TRD 4X4 package, just like now. Only base 4X4 without locking diff or other extras. Bummer.

I dont know. The new truck will have the option for TRD sport package on the regular cab according to Swears, I could see a 4x4 sport 4cyl reg cab as an option.

I thought they were doing away with regular cabs. Maybe he meant access cab? In which, sports are available on access cabs (v6)

Sweers: The exterior styling is basically set to give the appearance of an aggressive desert racer. The interior styling is based off some of the ATV styling themes we're seeing now, with the handlebar design in front.

We also cleaned up the model lineup so each model or grade has a clearly defined look — both inside and out — with certain standard equipment packaged into each one. We will be coming out with five distinct models — the SR, the SR5 and the Limited, followed by our TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road models.

The SR5 continues to be our top seller. Meanwhile, the new two-door TRD Sport is a 4x4 for the average customer,

I still have not gotten a solid answer why the DCLB is only offered in with an auto. Does anyone know why?

They consider the access cab as a two door. The regular cab is gone and it's not coming back partly because it is not a very popular option and partly because the shorter wheelbase hurts fleet fuel economy numbers due to the way the CAFE regulations are written for trucks. The attached PDF has been floating around showing the various configurations that are most likely going to be available once it's released. There is no regular cab. And no 4cyl with TRD package.

edit: uploaded a screenshot of the PDF

Sweet, thanks for clarifying, it was a great interview but for someone who is the chief engineer, he certainly has alot of fumblings with his wording for the truck.

Nice to see I can get the TRD Sport 4x4 in Access Cab LB, which is what I've been hoping for. Is the 7559 for LB and 7560 for the SB?

7559 is for manual trans, 7560 is for automatic trans. AC's only come with standard 6ft beds (LB); double cabs either come with a short 5' bed (DCSB) or long 6' bed (DCLB).

Toyota said more HP, towing and better MPG. They never mention more torque. Torque could actually go down and towing can go up with transmission and transfer case. Also with weight, although is on the record saying not much weight was saved. I think power to weight ratios should be given with specs too. More to pulling than just tranny/motor.

Ya but when you say, new 2 door trd sport, when it clearly has 4 doors (2 in back are still doors, just half) and has been called an access cab for the last 10 years, he designed the damn thing, and the truck has been around in this variant for 10 years, reg cab (2 door), access cab (2 full, 2 half), double cab (4 door). Sort of like the "we kept nothing but a seatbelt bracket" statement which is clearly not true.
