Remove the antenna before you take it through the wash. You should of received an antenna wrench with your Tacoma either in the glove box or center console.Your antenna may get partially bent or loosen up when taking it through the car wash depending on the type of car wash you using. As nice as your Tacoma is you should wash it yourself to avoid any type of damage that can occur at a car wash.

I've taken my truck through the automatic washes with the swirrly brushes countless times with no issue.

When did Toyota start including an antenna wrench in the glovebox?

    Ugh, so much misinformation here.

I'm in the carwash business. I've had customers refuse to remove their antennae. They can go through every week for months with it on and then one day it snaps it off.

    Of course. And agreed.

That said, I have never broken an antenna in a gas station car wash in 16 years of driving trucks, at least OEM antennas. I did break an 18" aftermarket antenna, but it wasn't in a wash and it was rigid stainless IIRC.

Maybe it depends on 100 variables all coming into alignment.
Rigid shorty antennas are more fragile than flexible, bendy long OEM antennas..

    A downgrade in durability.

My '11 didn't come with a wrench. But any $1.98 wrench, pliers, or free promotionsl multitool will work just fine.

I always thought it was common sense to take off the antenna when going through a carwash.

..and when the hell did it take 5 minutes to take off the antenna as someone stated?

If a person is young enough to have never seen a fixed antennae, and has never handled an end wrench...

I go through a touchless car wash at least 2 to 3 times a week because of the crap gravel roads here and have never had the antenna or any other part of my truck even come close to making contact with the spray arm in the wash. Don't know about those suburban city washes I guess?
