Truck runs good now. $150 for the Transmission shop to drain it after my mechs couldn't fix it and refill it properly again. (One of my Mechs retired and they got a new guy in.)

Ah, but I see you didn't apply the 3M velco to the floorboard and underside of the Gas pedal. Fool.

Holy crap, I just found this thread. Thank god I found this thread though, I just said to myself the other day, that I thought it was odd that the coolant is pink in my Tacoma I just got.

To add on with my own stupid oil change stories and to re open old wounds (sorry Krazie): Back when I'm 15 years old, my dad tasks me with changing the oil on my Mom's Explorer. First oil change on that new vehicle. I had done a few oil changes by now for the old man and didn't want to let him down, so I went right to it. Everything went smoothly. I drained it, took the filter off, put on the new filter (even put oil on the gasket) and put the plug back in. Filled it up with oil, according to the book capacity, checked it, and was ready to go. So Mom's in the yard when I start it up. I hear this odd FWOOSH sound coming from somewhere underneath. Mom is jumping up and down and freaking out speaking in tongues. Well I shut it off quickly and jump out to see whats going on.

Oil is spraying out from under that explorer all over the place. It looks like an overhead fire sprinkler in a building, just oil everywhere. Lesson learned: The factory often does not use oil on the gasket for the filter when assembling a vehicle. So on that first oil change, when you take the filter off, make sure the old gasket comes off with the filter and does not stay attached to the engine. I mated the new filter on top of the old gasket, so I only had gasket to gasket contact and that pressure blew out oil everywhere. I think it took me three hours to wipe down every square inch of the underside of that car, not to mention the driveway. :)

Next story: Fast forward to when I am an adult. I am changing the oil on my 04 4Runner. Didn't live with Mom and Dad anymore, so had to buy my own supplies. Went and got me my filter, oil, a shiny new floor jack (to rotate tires while I was at it), and even a new drain tub for the oil. The fancy kind that are sealed except for a hole in the top and a side opening with a cap for draining the oil. So I get to work. NOTE: I was very sure to pull that little shipping plug out of the center of that new drain pan. First thing I did I pull the drain plug out, like I had done many times by this point in my life. I carefully drop the plug onto my chest where I had placed a nice thick rag and I use that to wipe my two fingers off of oil (cat like reflexes you see kept me from covering my hand in it) and to clean the plug. I roll to the side and prepare to get up to let it drain for 30 minutes or so and then come back.

All of sudden something doesn't seem right. I says to myself, "man that oil pan sure is filling up fast". Then my wife runs outside as I start screaming the f-bomb about 20 times in a row. I am screaming obscenities because my cat like reflexes that I mentioned before caused me to freak out and try to sit up under the vehicle, smacking my head on the frame (literally dead on the frame rail). So now I am simultaneously fumbling trying to get the drain plug threaded back in the hole and snugged down and trying to not pass out, while oil is running down me and all over the driveway. Lesson learned: When you buy a shiny new drain tub, make sure that the factory didn't screw you with a defect where they never punched out the hole in the lid so the oil could drain inside. Otherwise that 5 quart or more tub will only hold about a 1/2 quart on its surface before overflowing its new lessened capacity. I very angrily cut a large hole in the top of the tub with a box cutter to solve that problem but not before having a huge mess to clean up.

Great read...thanks for the stories Dozer. Welcome to TW.

I was just writing about my new Fumoto Drain valve in the Ultimate Oil Change thread. It's well worth the cost. Attach a small tube to the nipple and open the valve with a small lever. You can run the oil right into the storage container (old laundry container). It cost me $26 but will save in rags, oil pans, cleaning supplies and frustrations.

    Check it...http://www.quickoildrainvalve.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=F103N

You found a no-drip pump that reaches from your transmission to your radiator?

This is pretty good stuff, I use it on my rig. cheaper than the high-end brands, but just as effective.

If I get the chance, you realize I'm going to crap in your nose right?

I mean seriously, there's going to be some celery string shit-glued to some half digested corn in your nasal cavity. You thought smelling dung was bad? Wait to you catch a whiff of my decaying bog corpse stench being absorbed through the mucous membranes of your nasopharynx.
