I [my wife and I actually] can say with a straight face that we are indeed Royals fans because we suffered through all the dark years since the last time they were good. After all, it's easy to be a fan when they are winning, huh? I cannot count the number of times we've gone to KC and watched the Royals lose 2 out of 3 though . . .

Oh, we had the "excuse me" blip in 2003 almost making the playoffs which resulted in [then] manager Tony Pena getting manager of the year immediately followed by his firing in 2004 but, other than that, we have sucked since the early 90s. We have a VERY good core locked up for a few more years at least before they will no doubt get bought by one of the coastal teams but just pretty proud of what the Royals have done with almost 1/3 the salary cap of the Yanks [which we just took 2 of 3 from pretty handily  ] or the Angels [which we swept back in week one :yay:].

It's a beautiful stadium, 2004. The switch to Retro parks began some time ago. Probably Camden Yards in Baltimore was the first, 1992. Progressive Field in Cleveland, 1994. Throw in AT&T in SF, 2000 (my favorite, of course), PNC in Pittsburg,2001 (I've heard it's also awesome). Too bad about Comisky in Chicago, 1991. Heard that was a swing and a miss. Very happy I was able to see a game at the old Comisky before it was torn down.

Comiskey seems to be the last of the "concrete donut" type of stadium.

Just a faithful Giants fan since 1960. I love the game, but despise the Dodgers. Big Series starts tonight. Looking for a rejuvenated team to make some noise with Pence back. Not confident with Hudson on the mound, however.

Lift, armor and such. Money pit, check out the build thread...
It's nice to be proud to be a Royals fan again after the dark ages. I was to young to remember 85, my first memories are watching Brett in his final years, still winning a batting title in 90 at age 37, and my favorite as a kid, Bo Jackson. Not a lot to root for after that. I thought they were going to round the corner 5 years ago. Took a little longer, but I truly feel like success is here to stay for a while!

Had a blast watching the playoffs and series last year, but it is still hard to leave the tying run 90 feet away in game 7. "Being happy just to make it there" doesn't mean shit at that point, we should have won...

Those last 3 plus the 1 in 2009 cost $447,831,959.00 in players salaries. Holy crap...:eek:

God thing you don't live here. I wanted the Royals to win as well. Every time I go to the mountains, I pass this sign. I'm proud of a local guy would have liked your Royals to win.

Pretty standard response :bored: maybe if other teams fans supported their team a little more they would have money to spend on players too. All major sports are a business, to pretend that they just play for fun and money doesn't matter is ignorant

We're on a roll but the Dodgers are swinging good. Not confident with Hudson tonight. Lincecum tomorrow i have more faith in. Giants bats have woken up and Pence is back, should be good series.

I wasn't dissing on your team. If you have the money, spend it. I was curious and looked it up. But.. other fans support their teams? That's probably a little unfair. Everything cost more in New York and that's why they pay more, they have more income. It's natural evolution. And I quit believing they played for fun a long time ago.

Outside of SF, the whole world was going for KC ... nice to see the little guy (small market) win once in awhile. Sweeping the Angels was still very impressive !

If the Giants weren't in the Series I'd have been cheering for the Royals for certain. I am always cheering for the the small market team to do well.
