I have to bring my 2005 Tacoma V6 6speed in to have the throwout bearing replaced. Some people have told me that I should have the shop replace the clutch while they have the trans out. It has 130,000 miles on the original clutch. Any thoughts on whether I should have the clutch done at this point? Should I have the flywheel done, too? Thanks.

If it were me and I had the extra cash I probably would have the clutch replaced just for piece of mind. I have no idea about the flywheel though.

I can't let the wife know
Have flywheel resurfaced. If to many burnt marks I would replace. Replacing the clutch (Aisin brand) would be a smart thing to do at this point.

I took the easy way out one time when replacing a clutch. Just slapped it on and went. Followed by removing the tran, clutch, and taking the flywheel to a local machine shop to be resurfaced. Clutch chatter was beyond annoying. Easy enough to take off, and while you are there you could consider replacing the 20$ rear main seal as well. Rubber gets pretty hard after that many miles and high temps.

Yes! It is cheaper in the long run to only pull the transmission once.

Clutch, Throw-out Bearing, Pressure Plate and Flywheel. I would inspect the rear main seal while you are there also, I'm not sure how hard this particular one is to get to.
