2016 Toyota Tacoma reuses 2005-2015 cab design?

One thing for sure. It will be the 2016 Tacoma.
I really don't care what gen someone calls it.

 

We will get to see the differences first-hand tomorrow at the SEMA measuring session. We also got to see the 2016 at the Overland Expo last weekend, but can now get our hands on one and start developing products!!! The new Tacoma re-design (or lack thereof) wasn't a huge surprise after seeing what Toyota did with the Tundra.

 

I work in the parts department at a Toyota dealership in Canada, so I deal with chassis codes, diagrams and part numbers. Sales departments deal in "all-new" and "next-generations" and other marketing mumbo-jumbo.

Once the NCF books, other technical specs and parts catalogs get released, we'll know for sure, but I fully expect based on what I've seen so far from Toyota corporate that things will be exactly as I had previously said. I don't even think it will be a separate parts catalog for 2015 and 2016, they will likely share the same parts catalog with the same diagrams and just different part numbers, again similar to the way they did it for the 2014 Tundra.

I don't want to discount all of the upgrades and changes that Toyota has made to the Tacoma for the 2016 model year, but in a world of ambiguous terminology and confusion, it's always best to keep things straight from the get go, calling it the 3rd generation Tacoma before it's officially announced is going to be confusing later, especially when the actual 3rd (4th then?) generation Tacoma gets released.

Like had been previously said, yes, they made a lot of changes, I'm sure the frame has been updated and so on, but I'm sure once the details are released, you'll see that it shares the same dimensions in most regards as far as the frame and other chassis/body components go, and that the actual design has remained consistent with other

2005-2015 models. I also question that only a seat belt bracket is the same, I bet once it comes out you'll see that things like the brakes are unchanged, steering knuckles, and that other "hard" parts have remained the same as well.

Wait and see I suppose, but marketing is a tough game, especially when you are competing with other new trucks from the likes of GM. Public impressions matter to sales.

What matters to me is that things are technically correct, the very best kind of correct.

Well put. And looking at it at the auto show and from pictures of underneath, etc. It looks like alot of the hard parts you mention are shared/carried over. Thanks!

If only we can get seats like this (for the rear seat room). This is from the new Hilux. Look at the room in the knee area!!!

 

Do you think they might have just moved all the seats completely forward and then took this pic as to give the illusion of more leg room?

 

I don't see why we wouldn't prefer it to maintain the same suspension. There is a large aftermarket support system already in place, and many owners would simply unbolt their suspension from their existing truck and transplant to their new truck.

 

And from pics it looks like it is the same. Should be any easy swap for those moving to the new truck or wanting to lift right away.

 

Just the sculpting of the rear of the seat back would allow for more room in the knee area.....that is one thing the Colorado did correctly.

 

While it would be nice if they could reuse the same shocks and stuff I think the geometry of the suspension needs to change a bit. The front suspension has always felt very "loose" to me. Going over simple speedbumps the steering wheel seems to move a lot. Plus, with the suspension as it is right now you can't go higher than 3" without new upper control arms right? Would be nice if you could...

 

Too bad the front bolster cuts off circulation on the rear of the thigh.
