Not sure this one really counts as "Truck camping" but I'll post this here anyways.
I met up with some family who are into RV'ing and Quadding. We had three sites, both to the left and right of this one. Full hookups, free WiFi, ride in/out for the quads and an awesome view. It was nice catching up with the family but I prefer to go camping in places that you can't get a trailer/RV. It was a good opportunity to test out the sleeping platform I built for my new canopy though.
My next trip will be somewhere a little less established.

Cool tent. But, who needs a tent when camping in Hawaii? :D

They're factory Toyota running boards. Yes, they are very convenient especially for my girls to get in and out of the truck. But they will be replaced with sliders with a kickout at some point in the near future.

The GF and I swung by the OX2015 event on Friday and then headed over to the rim area of Sedona for 2 days of camping. It rained/hailed/snowed for most of Friday & Saturday, but the Sun came out on Sunday and warmed/dried things up a bunch. We had a great time. If you are in the area and have 4x4, definitely check out Hot Loop Trail (Forest Road 153A). There are 4 or 5 primo spots to camp on the rim with amazing views of the Sedona red rock mountains.

Are you talking about my tacoma setup or the campsite I'm general?

If you're talking about my tacoma I have an A.R.E. MX series shell for my double cab long box that I sleep in.
    image.jpg

I built myself a sleeping platform that is easily removable without tools. The center between the wheel wells has 4 hinged doors. The aluminum crossbars are removable and the doors can be put off to one side if I need to move a large item. For the most part everything stays in place.

Here's a few pics of that setup, I just put it together the weekend before last.
    image.jpg
    image.jpg
    image.jpg

I keep the foam for the mattress rolled up while driving so that I have access to everything underneath until I set up camp.

I didn't bring much of my camping equipment with me on that trip because of the travel trailer, but I test fit some of my
camping gear underneath the bed the other day and I think things fit quite nicely. I have enough room for 2 camp chairs, a 10x10 easy up canopy, 2 x 20L MWC (military water cans), my camp stove, underbed rolling Tupperware, wash bins, and tool bag. One of the side hatches will be reserved for my battery and I'll fill the remainders with other random belongings and gear.

    image.jpg

Originally I was thinking of adding a drawer with slides underneath the bed but I think this system maximizes my space the best with the gear I usually pack along. The underbed Tupperware with wheels seems to do the trick too.

    image.jpg

I still have more work to do regarding electrical and black out curtains. And I'm still considering painting the wood black and maybe glueing some sort of black hard plastic sheeting over the plywood sections. I haven't really found a material suitable yet. I'll be starting on the electrical portion this weekend. I have some LED light bars, switches, 12V sockets, USB sockets, battery meter, LED Dimmer switch, digital temperature meter and a box I have to cut and drill to house everything. Still have to get
myself a fuse block and some wire, connectors and wire loom

I might bail on doing the electrical and just end up going camping again this weekend though :p

How's the beaches these days? Last time I was up there we spent hours picking out old beer bottles and such from below the water line. Shame the yahoos wreck everything.
Also hows the road in? Did you go the easy or difficult road in? Thanks

The 4wd association of bc takes care of the site now. It stays pretty clean it's pretty popular. after this past weekend I was impressed by the cleanliness of the beaches usually they're a disaster after a long weekend. The "hard way" isn't so hard but it's getting nice and chewed up and washed out. Stocker can make it with careful line choice. The long way has a couple spots that are getting fun too.

Yup! This was my first trip out there, first camping trip with the truck and tent. Found one of the dispersed campsites that backed up to the river.
