So I guess the 4cylinder Ford Mustangs weren't muscle cars either?:p

I had a 2001 S4 Avant that I really liked a lot. I hated working on it though, super cramped in that engine bay, and because it was a 10+ year old car with a hot running engine in a cramped bay, any time you fixed something, you had to replace everything you touched on the way to that part since all the plastic was so brittle from all the heat cycles.

In terms of needing the most help to stay running, my '83 Rabbit was a constant pain in the ass. I had it in college and I was too cheap to just address the problem (screwed up carb). It would regularly decide not to run for 5-10 minutes, then be fine.

No, and neither was my 143 HP Ford Focus.

Now drop a 5.0 L from a junk yard into the Mustang, which is fairly simple to do, and you have a muscle car. Too bad you didn't quote my entire post to get that distinction.

PM me if you want to validate all those "muscle car" Neons you owned.

My point was that a Mustang can be swapped to a high displacement engine easily. It's literally built for that .

    I googled this:

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines muscle cars as "any of a group of American-made 2-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving."[2] A large V8 engine is fitted in a 2-door, rear wheel drive, family-style mid-size or full-size car designed for four or more passengers. Sold at an affordable price, muscle cars are intended for street use and occasional drag racing.[3][4][5][6] They are distinct from two-seat sports cars and expensive 2+2 GTs intended for high-speed touring and road racing. Developed simultaneously in their own markets, muscle cars also emerged from manufacturers in Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere.

The neon with 4 doors, FWD would not fit the definition above :anonymous:

Lol, every thread needs at least one use of the stay on topic smilie:rofl:

But in all seriousness I don't really disagree with anything that you've said regarding muscle cars, just pointing out that the definition is up for interpretation. I'm tickled that you bothered to go to Wikipedia just for little old me! Too bad you didn't notice that this quote you pulled: "According to Muscle Cars, a book written by Peter Henshaw, a "muscle car" is "exactly what the name implies. It is a product of the American car industry adhering to the hot rodder's philosophy of taking a small car and putting a large-displacement engine in it."

was preceded by this: "The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines muscle cars as "any of a group of American-made 2-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving."

and followed by this: "Henshaw further asserts that the muscle car was designed for straight-line speed, and did not have the "sophisticated chassis", "engineering integrity", or "lithe appearance" of European high-performance cars.[7] However, opinions vary as to whether high-performance full-size cars, compacts, and pony car qualify as muscle cars.":poking:

So, in terms of strict definition any coupe made in America could be argued to be a muscle car if you can come up with some justification for calling the engine high-performance. That being said, as far as opinion goes I'm right there with you on 4 cylinders not really fitting the bill. Haha still enjoyed stirring the pot though:stirthepot:

Oh and just to be clear, I have never owned a Neon, I respect myself far too much for that:D

The webster's definition ends where the quote ends, it doesn't include the stuff about V8s and rear wheel drive.

See the number 2 after the quote? That is a link to the citation showing there is evidence for the claim. The rest of it has no citation because whomever wrote the article likely just hammered that in based on opinion.

Please tell me that's not what you are trying to define as a "sports coupe" with a high output engine designed for performance driving.
