RWD is nowhere in the definition.

I had a Toyota Celica - would not call it a muscle car...

Depends on your interpretation of performance driving. If you relate muscle cars to straight line acceleration, as most people do, you'd want a RWD for better launches.

I think a lot of this boils down to interpretation. High performance driving is kind of difficult to define, too all-inclusive of a term. I would say an 05 WRX STI is high performance but that's AWD, I'd also say that the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo Le Mans is high performance with its 1,250hp but that's FWD.. I guess it all comes down to how many lemmings one can cram in the trunk.

One can never have too many light bars.
It technically wasn't my car it was my dads. But a 1992 Ford Taurus. That shitbox overheated multiple times, went through 2 alternators, an A/C unit and went through a transmission all before it hit 45K miles and was less than 3 years old. Back then my dad was all " I'm never buying anything but an American car and this proved to be the last straw. Good thing too cause all we've had since was Honda's and Toyota's and all of which have gone past 200K.

Imports cannot be muscle cars. It's even in your own definition.

Also the WRX is a street/rally machine. The Nissan LM models aren't production cars.

Yeah I wasn't saying they were muscle cars, thought that would be obvious..

Just using them to illustrate the point of high performance not being a term that delineates drivetrain.

I feel like this discussion is getting a little too serious, was enjoyable debating the definition of muscle car, but I'd rather this not become a shit storm. I personally have no vested interest in what the definition of muscle car is, nor do I feel like the Dodge neon is in any way muscle. I just thought it was interesting enough to point out that it technically fulfills the merriam-webster's criteria..

Arb front bumper, warn winch, All Pro rear bumper, OME up front, OME and All Pro Standard in Back, ARB locker, 34 x 10.5 KO2's, 17" Level 8 Trackers, and fancy single piece driveshaft.
My wife owned a 98 Audi A4 when I met her. She bought it new, and she had the dealer maintain it. During the year after the warranty expired, the car only had 30 to 35k on it. But it racked up more than $2k in repairs. Trim fell off, sway bar links went bad, and the kicker was the water pump failed at about 33k. The pump replacement cost $750. To R&R the pump, they had to remove the front bumper and slide the radiator forward. I seriously considered buying an inflatable lemon (Jack Daniels promo item on ebay) and putting it on the car, and parking it in front of the dealer. But instead we sold it.

A while later she got a one year old '08 Buick Enclave with 35k on it. First the car was recalled because the wiper fluid heater could start the car on fire. A while later the rear camshaft had to be replaced because it had been mis machined, and could move laterally too much. They had to pull the engine to get at the camshaft. While at the dealer that time, I got the service history, and realized that the engine had also been pulled for another reason when the prior owner had it. At 60k a front strut failed. At about 70k water would occasionally somehow leak through the sunroof when it rained. At 73k the transmission started throwing codes. The dealer said the main computer was not talking to the transmission's computer. They didn't know why, and then it stopped throwing codes. And they still didn't know why. We traded it in to a Buick dealer on a Saturday, and got a Honda Pilot. The very next Monday, the car was recalled, which was priceless because a Buick dealer now owned it. The official explanation was that water could leak in and corrode wiring preventing the airbags from working. Water leakage also caused all sorts of other problems that they didn't want to admit to.

I will never let my wife pick another car, unless it is Japanese.

My old 1993 Ford Exloder hands down!! I bought it in 1998, and put nearly $15,000 into it over the 5 years I owned it. Everything went bad, engine, transmission, radiator, and the biggest problem, the brakes which needed new pads monthly, as well as new rotors every 3 months. The brakes were so tiny for this heavy of a vehicle, you would think they were made for the Focus. Never again will I buy a domestic vehicle.

Most unreliable vehicle I have experienced?

Without a doubt, hands down a 1994 Pontiac God Dam. Brakes n rotors every rear, timing belt and new top end at 60k, water pump, alternator, ac went out, starter, coil packs... If it could be unbolted and replaced, it was. Traded that POS for a 04 Mazda Tribute. 180,000 miles later she's starting to show her age.

1976 Ford Pinto (a hatchback with the rear gas tank that would rupture and spray the occupants with fuel when rear-ended). My parents bought it for me used as as a HS graduation present. My father is a pretty good mechanic, but he trusted the local used car lot and did not check it out closely, and we paid for the one time he did not perform his due diligence. Several starters, a clutch, brakes, a quart of oil every few hundred miles, etc. One night I was out with a friend, and it started running rough, on the verge of stalling at idle, no power. I pulled over, opened the hood, and noticed a vacuum line connection no longer had a vacuum line attached to it, but there was no loose vacuum line in sight. I plugged it with a golf tee which I happened to have in my pocket, it ran fine, and I sold it a week later with the golf tee still in there.

I saw a Pinto on the road a few days ago, still running . Talk about death traps. I kind of wanted to rear end it and watch the fireworks, so to speak.

Being that I'm old and grew up poor & out in the sticks, I'll say "Everything domestic before 1978 or so"

I started out with field cars at around 9-10 years old with a 53 chevy wagon, and "leave 'em where they stop running" was a common thing.

As far as street legal, actual licensed and registered cars...I had an 84 Chevy Celebrity, a 4 door with an iron duke in it, that was solid as a rock (even if it took 24 seconds to go from 0-60). After a deer got that one, I got a steal on an 85 with the 2.8 v6 in it...and that bag of shit, I don't think it ever ran three weeks straight a single time without me tinkering/swapping out/flat replacing something.

    My 2012 Civic Si.

Body panel problems, premature clutch failure, blown rear shocks, inability to align rear suspension, paint failure, oil leaks, charging problems, water leaking into interior, etc. Car was purchased new with 7 miles and now has 50,000 miles on it and it's all stock except for the rubber.

Hasn't really cost me any money because everything was done under warranty. But it was a major inconvenience until I bought the Taco.
