What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

The former is correct, but I determined it was a result of incorrectly setup shoes in the back. Fixed that issue, replaced the pads, and paying close attention to how long they last.

 

On my 3rz I have 2x little check valves on my vacuum/emission system. (One blue one orange) Does anyone know which way they are supposed to go on?? I feel like I've removed them before and am not sure if I put them back in the correct direction or not.

Noticed this over lunch. It went from a minor seep to an explosion sometime over the last few days. Looks like I'll get to experience changing a CV for the first time this weekend. Anyone have a recommendation on where to get a good replacement? I see O'Reillys has them from $55 - $75. I've seen mixed reviews on where to get replacement CVs, so any input is great.

 

If you don't want to fork over the cash for OEM, the NAPA replacements are the next best bet for a decent price. The non re-manned ones also have a lifetime warranty.

 

Well, I do like a lower price. Any reason a NAPA replacement wouldn't suffice?

 

From what I've heard they don't have quite as much articulation in the joints. But even if you wheel hard and have them drooped out at full lock and snap one, you can get a new one for free. I'm running them on both sides of my truck now and haven't had any issues thus far. With my student discount they were only like $90 per side, and came with a lifetime warranty.

 

I got Oreilly's replacements with lifetime warranty and they're doing fine, so far.

I was initially considering doing so. I guess I wasn't sure if it would be practical to replace just the the boot since I am taking the entire CV out anyway?

I have a question.



When you weld lower shock mounts to the rear axle do you have to be concerned with igniting the grease inside the axle or damaging seals or something?

 

I may just replace them with new axles and reboot the old ones and keep as spares. Appreciate the help! Decisions, decisions...

 

hell yea man. especially if they just ripped. I rather roll on OEM axles, that's just me.

 

I don't think it ripped, it looks like it just separated the boot from where it was originally clamped. I'd be half tempted to just take the crimp off, slide the boot further down, and tighten a hose clamp down on it... if it hadn't lost so much grease already.

 

all you gotta do is squeeze a new packet of grease into there then clamp it if the boot didn't rip.. should be real easy.

 

Is that not the boot slide mod??

 

I thought the boot slide mod was a little more intricate than that?

 

Agree reboot them. I went with an Autozone axle when I ripped my boot, but the boots felt really stiff on those. I ended up just ordering the OEM inner boot from camelback and rebooted both my axles. The autozone one is now a spare. Takes just a little more work to reboot.
