    @Dangerousd1987 have you been to the Belmont Brewing Company.It's in Long Beach and it's more of a restaurant on the beach, but the beer is good.

    The beer is pretty good at Belmont!They don't brew a lot of beers variety wise.The food is good and the happy our prices are good for both beer and food.Just thought i'd let you know since you said you haven't been there!

    I've had almost everything by them. My buddy brews for them so we would go all the time. Their Coffee Porter has won several awards and it's delicious. I'm free tonight if anyone is down

    Another good Brewery but it's north of us, over in Buellton by Solvang. Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co.

    I Solvang also has a brewery. Solvang Brewery it used to be called the Viking Brewing company but they weren't consistent. You never new what you were getting.

    They're both quite good. Newcastle is currently running a promotional campaign through a partnership with Caledonian Brewery. The Caledonian has made both a session IPA (green label) and a British style pale ale (red label) which are being packaged in cases with the regular Newcastle brown.

    I first found out about this promotion when my Dad showed up with a case of it and was near shitting himself over the discovery. He grew up in Scotland and worked in Edinburgh breweries in his twenties, so this was quite a nostalgic find. In fact, he was good friends with the head brewer at Lorimer & Clark (before it was called the Caledonian), who acted as a mentor to my Dad in his early home-brewing days. I suppose I have that friendship to thank for the excellent brewing advice which has been passed down to me through the years.. since about age 4 I've been eagerly over my old man's shoulder watching him make deliciously bitter low ABV IPA.:cheers:

    This may well be your only chance to try anything remotely similar to real British beer outside of the UK.


    This stuff is quite different from a pint of dog in both flavour and body, but if you like Brown ale I have a hard time believing that you'd be anything short of impressed by these two.

    When we got a couple cases a little over a month ago, my first reaction was :bananadance:OH GAWD IT'S SO GOOD ALMOST LIKE I'M BACK IN THE HOME COUNTRY:bananadead:

    Having just bought this case yesterday, I've noticed that there is quite a difference in flavour from the same stuff we had at first. I'm thinking that because this is a short-time promotional deal that it isn't possible for them to quality control flavour-matching with anywhere near the precision of the beers they mass produce. It is also possible that they had to quickly make a few more batches of the stuff after seeing how well the first shipment sold over here, they may have been caught off guard by the reception their beer received in the states!

    If anyone is interested it would be worth noting how low the alcohol content of British session beer is. If you look up the Caledonian brewery you will find that the beers they make in Britain are made for drinking by the gallon... it's all in the 2.8-4.8% range, now that's REAL session beer! ..Except for the imperial of course which is their strongest at 5.2%
