I made good use of the Canadian holiday and the day off work yesterday, by installing the two 4x4 hub assemblies that Kev put together for me.

He makes a nice product, prices are great and shipping was fast. Kev also answers PM's promptly. Excellent work Kev, and thanks for enabling us to DIY.

In case it helps others, I had a vibe in the floor at anywhere between 55 and 70 mph. When I tweaked the steering wheel to the side, the vibe stopped. No side to side or top to bottom play in either front wheel, and no audible grinding with either the wheel on or off (rotor on in either case). Turns out the bearing in both factory hubs was crunchy. Replaced both (couple of hours between that and helping wifey with some digging), and the truck is smooth again. Those were factory hubs with 226xxx km on them. 2009 4x4 V6 SR5.

Exactly what I am experiencing. I even bought the ECGS bearing that I was going to put in also but I am leaning towards it just being the wheel bearings

thank you for the update & feedback. definitely one of the more unusual diagnosis of a worn bearing. Mine were the same way, no noise down the road and no play in the bearing. When I removed the rotor I could smell how badly burnt the bearings were.

thanks again for the feedback, glad I could help =)

Unfortunately the 3rd generation 4Runners use a bearing cartridge that is pressed into the spindle, similar to the 1st generation Tacoma's.

    so you can't make them?

i like the idea of the possibility for longer threads for spacers.

It would require an entire spindle to make a "bolt-on" design.

That style is not like the 2nd gen Tacomas / 4th Gen 4Runners that use a bolt on bearing module.

    1st gen Tacoma/ 3rd gen 4runner design:

    2nd gen Tacoma / 4th gen 4Runner "bolt-on" design:
