This is why I need to part ways with my 2005 tundra access cab. 3 growing kids. They are losing space fast in the back and getting them out is always a hassle due to the awesome looking suicide back doors. Look awesome, but not practical. especially when against a garage wall and I have to open both, maneuver children toward the front door, close the back, get one out, then repeat the process. Annoying. New tundra is awesome, sat in one and plenty of room. But, dino juice is not going to stay cheap and I never tow more then 5500 lbs.

My only worry is the engine. My tundra is based on a lexus engine and is smooth as a babies butt.

 

The 2016 would be the one to get from everything I've seen.

 

Having driven new Toyota trucks since 1987, with my current one bought new in 2001 (14+ years ago), and it has almost 170,000 miles on it and it still runs like the day I bought it as a result of being well maintained, I can appreciate a well maintained vehicle. The less maintenance required the better, especially considering the high cost of maintenance. I did look at the Honda Ridgeline last year, and I noticed it went 100,000 miles between spark plug changes. I think to be competitive today the truck makers have to consider the cost of maintenance in the equation.

 

That's all well and good but, why so hung up on the spark plug change compared to other maintenance items?

Most of the maintenance interval changes come from the engineers okaying more miles for the same components rather than any components actually being upgraded.

It's all about companies trying to have a "lower cost of ownership" for corporate fleet sales since most companies look at that number more than the price of buying the vehicle.

what is the difference between the 2016 TRD Sport (4x4/V6/manual transmission/2-dr) and 2016 TRD Off-Road (4x4/V6/manual transmission/2-dr)?

 

I'm really liking the third gen, cant wait to see them on the road. But one thing I noticed is that making a plate bumper that looks good is going to be hard to do without cutting stuff. Especially with the way the stock bumper meets the fender.

 

My suspicion is Toyota designers are more concerned w meeting gov mandated standards then the aftermarket.

 

I am by no means an expert. A novice, barely. But....off road has locking differential. Sport does not. Sport can have longbed, off road can not. 2016 off road will have crawl control, sport will not. That is about all I know. Could be wrong...

 

Then there is the Tundra....you can do both.



If Toyota really listened to their customers like they said they did, many like to mod/personalize their Tacomas.

No one knows for sure on the 2016's. The details of the packages hasn't been released. We have seen pictures of the pre-production models but those may not be the final layout. For example, the chrome grille from the sport may actually belong on the limited.

I think it is safe to say that many of the difference between the current 2015 versions of the sport and off-road will remain. The sport will probably be the only trim with the hood scoop. I assume the sport will have 17" rims.

I think the most important performance difference between the two trims will be the crawl control, and A-TRAC. Neither of those can be easily added using aftermarket parts. The OR will also have an elocker on the rear. This is all speculation on my part. No one will know for sure until toyota releases official information.

 

The way they look now is pretty much production, spoke to toyota PR lady at auto show and she said this is the final look, any differences will be mechanical, small things, the grills you see are for those models. Havent seen an sr5 yet but expect the grilles, hood scoops and wheels to be the same for the limited, sport and off road.

Struggled with this decision for months. Was ready to pull trigger on a '15 DCSB OR, white, but then realized I'd be kicking myself after the '16 was out for a few months and I'd really warmed up to it. So might as well order a '16 ASAP. That's my reasoning anyway.

And the bumper building processes have begun.

 

Those crumple zone mounting plates look almost the same as the 2nd gen.
