Snow & Ice Tires

I have BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A tires right now. They slip in the rain. Does anyone suggest something better for snow and ice that is on/off road?

 

I have always had good luck with BFG All Terrains. They have great traction, last forever and come with a 50K warranty.

 

Most will tell you to go with an All terrain tire. While an improvement over what you have, there is no AT out there that comes remotly close in performance as a dedicated ice and snow radial.

Bridgestone Blizzaks get good reviews.

 

Yeah I was thinking Blizzaks I can get them for $92 each.

 

check out Tire racks survey, they sorta rate A.T and all season tires for trucks. look for ones with the mountain/snowflake symbol. Best ones i liked were goodyear silent armor or duratrax. They also do snow tire rating for Blizzacks and such.

 

I have been on tire rack for 3 hours.. I have dial up right now..

 

If you can get Blizzaks for $92 each, I wouldn't even consider anything else.

have had no problems with them in rain

 

Damn,dial up,ouch. I remember using rotary dial phones when I was a kid,red l.e.d. watches, and carbuerators.... dial-up should join em.

As for the tires u have now in the rain.. ,not sure how many miles u have on em they could be low tread, if not try airing down 28-32 perhaps, go easy on the throttle and keep some weight on the back.My boss has them on his hem equipped truck they seemed ok.

Nothing will touch a dedicated winter tire, no matter how great the A/T is.

The rubber compound and double the sipes is much more grippy in the cold & snow. But if your lazy getting them off and driving around in May, or put them on in Oct before true winter, they'll wear fast. Big question is are you looking to run one or two wheel sets?

If one set, a good A/T tire with a snowflake symbol would probably be your best bet year round.

If two, then tirerack had the 245/75 16 DMZ-3 Blizzaks for$79 last I saw.

I can run two sets. The ones I have right now are ok for summer, but I rather run on one set..

i dont mud , so i went with the ice option, much more useful here

 

Ok I really do like the goodyear duratracs...

 

They're awesome in the rain too, i just went through large puddles on the highway at 80mph a few days ago and the truck didnt even waver....if you look between the large treads inside there are like small scales to aid in snow/mud traction. This tire pretty much covers all of the weather conditions you could throw at it. I'm glad i got these because here in chicago we can get all kinds of nasty winter conditions.

you have to go and look at a pair to really appreaciate them.

 

Dont forget silent armor from G.Y. too, check your options first, he might not need Duratrax's mud like tread. "offroad " is too broad to define into 1 tire.

 

the duratrac's were designed as a work truck tire, not a mud tire.
thats why it is a all around tire.
