How long before cap manufacturers will have caps specific for the 2016 Tacoma? Do they already have all the specs and are pro-actively manufacturing them? Or will there be a delay between when the 2016 comes out and when caps are available? And if so, how long?

I... uh... would expect 2015 ones will likely fit. Hard to know with 100% certainty.

The beds top rails are longer because of the new tailgate so all the current shells will be too short.
Availability will depend on the brand.
Last time in 2005 Snug Top had the cab hi out pretty soon but in 2006 When I bought a 2007 The HiLiner model still was not available and had to go with ARE MX.

The aftermarket producers will have ample time to measure and produce parts for the 3rd Generation Tacoma. If it isn't available when you buy one it will be out shortly after.

This is a good question because although the 2016 Tacoma is virtually the same dimention-wise, the bed is an inch or so taller in the 2016 Tacoma. So that will affect topper fit. I am already seeing Chevy Colorados/GMC Canyons with proper toppers on them so I doubt it will take topper makers long to make them. Might be more $ out of the gate however.

The bed is not taller it just looks that way because of the front section behind the cab now matches the sides.

The bed is taller, just look where the side rails attach on the sides and you will see the difference. As well look at where the bed meets the cab, there is no front rail system this year but the mounting holes are still there and the top piece is now 1+ inches taller. The bed is now almost even with the bottom of the back window.

So the bed itself is the same but all of the parts attached to the top of the bed have increased in height this year.

    Lmao

100 bucks says the inner plastic bed is identical and its just new skins. Hung on the side. I highly doubt they redesigned the. Bed but left the cab the same.

Yes, the inner composite bed is the same, but the way it is attached to the outer shell is different and this causes the bed to gain an additional inch or so in height.

Inner composite bed is the same. The overall bed length is a bit taller. Toyota is on the record with that. I think the Mike Sweers video (pinned on gen 3 forums) has him talking about it.

I've studied the pictures here and have seen a test mule in person. To my eyes as an owner of 3 2nd gens. over 8 years it is not taller.
When it finally gets here and we can all measure if I'm wrong I will be first here to say your were right, but until then I disagree.

Everyone keeps quoting this Mike Sweers guy. You can see an easy 10 things that are the same. Yet people still think he knows exactly what he's talking about. He's telling you what the company wants him to tell you. His whole take on the new truck is scripted by Toyota, he's told exactly what to say and when to say it. I like the new truck, but hate when a company tells me shit I can see is not true right of the bat, just tell us what it really is. It's not " all new".

I just bought a 2016 double cab short bed Tacoma with a Leer topper on 10/17. I was just told it will be four weeks for Leer to make the mold, and another three to four weeks for my topper to arrive. And that is with a pre-order from the Toyota dealer. That means I will be lucky to have it by the end of the year.
