I like pretty things and I like to garden. We rent a little house with a very nice yard. When we moved in we made the landlord agree to clean the gardens, plant flowers and make the place look pretty. My hubby then got the landlord to trade us doing the work instead of a month of rent. Last year we weeded, the landloard paid for the mulch and flowers and we made the house look beautiful. This year my husband is not home (again). I like doing things, even doing them alone, as long as they are things we do together when he is home. I love to do things he doesn't think a prissy little girl can do. It almost feels like he is with me. I really didn't have anything better to do so I thought I could do this gardening myself. I'm smart, I'm strong, how hard could it be?

We used 100 bags of mulch last year. The gardens aren't as bad this year so I bought 60 bags. Part of my job is always to buy the things we need at Home Depot. When my husband goes, he can't find anything including someone to help him. When I go, wear something pretty and I get all the help I could ever need.

When I got home from getting the mulch and stuff last year my hubby drove the truck into the back yard. He goes down a hill, turns around, and unloads the bags to each garden and then drives back to the front of the house. I watched him do it last year and I knew I could do it too.

I turned the trucks H4 button on and drove to the bottom of the hill and turned around. I got out and put three bags around a tree. I must think I'm stronger than I really am because I can't believe how heavy a 40 pound bag of much feels! All I can think of is how am I going to do the other 57 bags? This isn't the first time I've tried to do something myself that I probably shouldn't have tried to do alone.

I got back into the truck and drove up the hill a little bit to the next spot. I got out again and walked to the back of the truck. I felt like I was having an out-of-body-experience because all the mulch was gone! The whole truck was empty! I just stared at the truck thinking I only unloaded 3 bags !

When my brain started working again I looked down the hill and guess what. I didn't close the back door of the stupid truck and all the stupid mulch that was on top of that big rubber mat slide out of the truck and was sitting on the grass at the bottom of the hill :angrygirl:. After a really, really good cry I called the landlord and he agreed if I don't ask him to reimburse me for the mulch he would send someone over later today and put all the bags at all the right spots. I know the glass is half full but...I feel so stupid!

I'm sorry to bother you guys with my stupid stories but where else can I go and whine and even if you agree I'm an idiot, I at least don't feel so stupid because I can hide behind my best friend (this stupid computer). Tonight, I think I'm going to treat myself to a bottle of wine. I'm ready for my hubby to come home.

Note to self. Don't put 800 pounds of mulch in the back of a truck, drive up a hill, and leave the back door open.

Live and learn, and don't be too hard on yourself!
And try to enjoy your weekend, I'm sure your husband would agree!

Not an idiot at all. I transport stuff like that quite often and never a problem. Just to steep I guess? When I was younger my dad unhooked the safety straps on the boat trailer with me in the boat so he could just back down, I start it and back off the trailer, he doesn't have to get wet. Started backing down the boat launch, boat slid off the trailer, down about 30' of concrete ramp and into the water. Now that's an idiot move.

Stuff like that has happened to all of us at one time or another, don't sweat it.

What I can't believe, is that you were able to convince your landlord to send a laborer over to move the mulch for you... nice going.

Thank you Old School and Mr Jeff. Mr Old School, I bet you really aren't that old and thank you for your service and for being a MARINE! I'm really not that hard on myself. After reading what I wrote I do understand it came across that way. I really do think what I did was pretty dumb and I really was just laughing at myself :). I should have made that clear. Thank you also for being nice!

Mr Jeff, thank you for raising a boy who I'm sure became a wonderful man and Marine. We both have every right to be proud, and thank you for reminding me we both are part of the USMC family and that does make me very happy! OORAH :)

He likes us both of us. We treat his property with respect, are very quiet, keep the place clean, and we make it look pretty. I think, most of all, he likes us because we pay the rent either early or on time :).

Hate to say it, but I don't know many folks who HAVENT done this. Part of owning a truck, is one day forgetting to close the tail gate, then loosing something. Be glad it all fell out at the destination :)

I really did feel that way! I walked up to the truck and expected to see all those bags and it was just clean and shiny. I really did think "oh ----" and I never talk like that!

I have left my camper top open, tailgate down, pulled onto the freeway and had my truck cleanup bucket go flying out the back!
Lost everything, made me feel like an idiot.
