Thank you, geesh trying to convince people its a 2nd gen at heart with lots of updates is like pulling teeth with some of these people and their horrible illogical arguments.

When the 2nd Gen came out, many hated it. But it grew on folks and many of the same folks who hated it at roll out ended up buying them. I expect that the 3rd Gen - such as it is - will grow on folks in time. And if Toyota knows what is good for them, they'll address people's concerns (payload? WTF!!!) or they will lose market share to Chevrolet, Ford and Nissan (Navarra is a world platform and very robust and the world platform Ford Ranger they get in Oz would have me in a Ford next week).

    Watching...

I really like the idea of improved mpg, all the new features like crawl control, locking tailgate, projector headlamps, digital display, etc. But I look at pictures of it almost everyday and its not growing on me, its so ugly especially the front, the sport especially has way to much going on. I dont know if I could trade in for the gizmos I really dont need for something I cant look at with the same admiration I have everytime I look at my current truck when I walk out to the driveway, had the same feelings about my 08 and 11, something about the design I just love. Who knows, like I said maybe the mid cycle update will bring a better nose on the new gen.

Wow totally forgot, yes I second the disappointment on the carry over rear drum brakes!

I consider myself a pretty big enthusiast/fan of small/mid size diesel trucks, from the Hilux to the global Ford Ranger to even the VW Amarok. I'm even willing to pay a $3k to $4k maybe even $5k upfront sticker price premium for a mid-size Toyota D4D truck. However the $20+k cost for a Diesel Toyz engine swap is to rich for my blood. I rather save that $20k for a nice down payment on the hinted upcoming next gen (2018+) Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Diesel and just keep my '15 Taco.

I agree, stay with heritage but this 3rd gen is not true to its heritage.( maybe the mechanics, but notbits poor face lift trying to make it look more "mean") Its a complete exterior and interior change. (Interior much needed) exterior... Well lets just say a couple extra grand will have to do to make it look decent....but its now a mini taundra... My opinion.. And that model aint growing on me any time soon! When you go more luxury, you lose that rugid off road feel the toys were always known for...needless to say, i am curious with all the TW folks and their creative minds to make them look like family to the previous gens:))

I agree with a lot of this.. I also agree a locking glove box/tailgate etc should have already been a thing.
I think it is dumb how they made it like the tundra. They should have kept them separate IMO cause they are 2 different trucks.
I believe there is good reason for keeping the same parts.
    1. Cost can likely be held down.
    2. It works and is already proven (minus the frame).
I'm sure there are more but those two seem the most important. Toyota is smart so they know what they are doing.

Dude you live in Socal, don't act like you've ever even known anyone with a rust around here... EVER. I've been working with Toyota for 5 years are the largest dealership in the city. We sell more Tacomas than anyone. Our master tech has been with Toyota for two decades and has NEVER seen a Tacoma with an actually bad frame from rust. He's never even seen one with the busted leaf the TSB is supposed to fix either.... You know as well as I do its not a real issue to worry about. You're just bitching for the sake of bitching.... For the 00.02% of people that ever do experience the issue its covered under a 15 year warranty.

People that are afraid of buying a Tacoma because the frame might rust are more ignorant than people that don't buy a Prius because they think the battery is going to go out (FYI the Prius transmission has a higher rate of failure than the battery yet NO ONE is afraid of buying a Prius because of the "weak transmission", to the contrary its one of the most reliable transmissions on the market).

Agree, with the exception of the Frontier and Canyon - neither of which look good, in my opinion.

I'm not sure I would want a totally redesigned Tacoma. Hell, it took them 10 years to work the bugs out of the 2nd generation one, to me, it looks like they just address the issues on the 2nd generation to make the 3rd, and I'm OK with that. I'd rather have one with the bugs worked out then to have one where they had to start all over again with new issue

I'm willing to bet there will be some bugs with this one too. New powertrain, more tech, etc.

I'm sure there will be as there will always be with anything new. At least this is not a completely brand-new motor, it is a reconfigured motor from there Lexus minus the turbo

I will call bullshit on the drum brakes. Sounds like they just didn't want to do the engineering to go to disc.

I really hate what they did with the grill. Their trying to copy the big three with their GIANT ugly grills and I can only assume its an attempt to make the truck look big.

That wouldn't surprise me since we've been living in a backwards society now for sometime. Person gets hit by a car, solution, make the front of the car "softer" vs DONT BE STUPID AND RUN OUT INTO TRAFFIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! But to say that would be politically incorrect and MIGHT offend someone's fragile feelings.

Either way though, its still ugly and I believe they could have met current yet really lame safety requirements while still making it look acceptable.
