Hunting down the rubbing

I've recently installed 3" Ultimate Toytec lift with LR UCA's. I have no rubbing while driving, but, when turning in reverse or when the truck "dips" when pulling into a driveway, i get a little rub. My questions are this.

1. What is the factory setting for the springs/shocks? They are the Bilstein 5100's with Eibach springs (i think)

2. I'm considering marking some parts with a wax stick or something to find out what is rubbing and what i can do to fix it. Any suggestions?

fyi. I'm running DC-1's 17x9 with Nitto Terragrappler 285/75/17's.

I'll pull the mud flaps tomorrow. Question is, would trimming help, or do you think its the part where the flap mounts at the fender?

I've been looking for rubbing spots, but the truck is kept fairly clean and hard to spot rubbing. I can tell it's coming from the inner nobs on the tires, i can hear them as they rub and feel it in the steering. I'll pull the mudflaps tomorrow and see if it still hits. Is there any reason why it would only rub in reverse, not in drive?

 

If the toytec kit was put on straight out of the box with the original setting that its set at like 2.75"...with 285's you're hitting the body mount and probally a partial portion of the inner liner. Take blue painters tape and mark up your inner liner. Runup into a inclined driveway at an angle. That'll leave the mark's you're looking for. The 2.75" lift is shown as 1.75" of thread on the coilover. The max limit that toytec recommends is max 2" of thread on the coilover - that'll put you at 3.25" of lift if you crank it to the max....( 1/4 lift on coilover thread equals to 1/2" of lift on truck ) I'm picking my truck up tomorrow after having it cranked to the max 2" of thread. Hopefully that cures the rubbing.

 

Never knew that about coilovers. Thanks for sharing. The toytecs are able to crank up to 3.5", correct?

 

I'm not sure how high they limit to I just know the max that toytec recommends. I wouldn't go over that because of the cv angles. Honestly I wouldnt' even go over their stock 2.75" setting unless you had some good uca's to balance it out.

 

Yeah I wasn't sure but I thought I read it was 3.5" I was wanting to crank mine to 3.5" when I get them and run 285/75/17s (33.8") because its just something thats not done a lot. But if its gonna be real bad on the cv's I dont want to.

 

Not only that but anything over 2.75 on the stock uca's and you wont be properly alligned which will leave you really wobbly at high speeds on the highway.

Thanks for the advice. I took a real good look today only saw a few marks on the mud flap where it mounts at the fender. Haven't seen anything else. However, the rubber? sheets that are held on with snaps keep coming off, dunno if the tire is hitting those or not. I'll pickup some painters tape this weekend and give that a shot. I have the Light Racing UCA's, so they should be okay. If all else fails, we'll crank it up another .5" and see if that clears it up.
