Not a problem. I know I have some welds that could look better, but speed and strength of the weld is all I care about. It takes time to stop and adjust the welder, its much quicker to just change your style of welding. You won't have the most beautiful welds, but its getting covered with paint and no one will care.

Yep one of my easier repair jobs...fixing the wiring.

Getting a nice early start on road trip weekend, woo hoo!! Time to fuel up on coffee, cinnamon rolls, doggie kibble, and Chevron 87 Octane. Taco bed is loaded down with crap (remember, I am a light packer! ;)) Interstate driving on I84 will be boring and lame - pretty scenery but boring road, AND you actually have to pay attention because of narrowish lanes and plenty of other drivers, semis especially. But tomorrow, when we hit the country highways then gravel then dirt.........it's all me!! :burnrubber: Wait, that means Eric will take over maps.........that means I can't be blamed if we get lost! :yes:Sweet!! As long as it's not my fault, that's all that matters :D

@koditten , Eric set the GPS to go to our trailhead. We'll see if it gets us there......hoping it does. Determined to find it this time!! After reviewing maps/books more last night, we are starting to think we missed it the 1st time because of cows standing together and blocking the view of the water trough that you are supposed to turn by. Not kidding, this is how the directions are given. Turn by cow trough. This time, if there are clusters of those bastards in the way, watch out fools, cuz here comes the TACO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lovemytacolots is takin' out some cows this weekend ya'll!! : )

I think if you check Ranchers can still Hang Rustlers or at least shoot them a few times.

Just leave them Cow Critters alone!! Try not to hit any now that Taco is running good

Unless your next project is gonna be replacing the front clip and Radiator.

needed a v6 to pull the boat, I cried when I sold it but what ya gonna do ????

and yes that's the one I was talking about converting to carbs to finally have a smooth idling truck.

I was barely making do with the weak ass 4 cylinder pulling the boat at less then the speed limit holding up traffic but the rough idle was one of the final straws along with the weak ass suspension that needed helper springs just to hold the weight of the trailer so that put me over the top to get rid of it.

if it wasn't for the lack of engine power I would have put prerunner leafs on it and called it good

The drive over to eastern Oregon........just gets prettier and prettier the further east you get. TW, we are thinking seriously about moving to Boise, it's pretty nice and it's so much closer to the areas we like to go to than Portland is.....the Wallowa mts, Elkhorn mts, Hells Canyon, and Owyhee canyons. Plus all the stuff in the state of Idaho that we've never seen at all, and I know it's super beautiful. Like the Salmon river area, the Sun Valley area.....tons of stuff over there!!

Anyone been to Sun Valley ski area? It sounds like it's really super nice, but very expensive and draws celebrities - wonder if that's true?

And here's what the Taco looked like at the beginning of the non paved roads........this was Sunday morning, just turned onto 1st gravel road (Succor Creek Road) and are ready for some action!! Getting the tunes all squared away and getting the camera ready for some eye popping stuff.....and telling Taco not to leave us out there!

Goodies to help us find our way. Not pictured is the fancy REI GPS, which we tried to use on this trip, and still managed to have problems using it somehow. I think you need to get a degree in utilizing your GPS if you actually plan to rely on it!

Basically our original plan was a long, confusing drive on terrible, unnamed but eye popping beautiful scenery roads to a long, strenuous hike through snake country on a "trail" that is not really much of a trail at all, due to so few people ever driving back into this area. But again, the payoff for the miserable hike is the insanely beautiful scenery - supposed to be the prettiest stuff in the state back in this canyon you hike through, and I've seen some stuff that seems pretty tough to top.......

The Taco held up her end of the bargain no problem :yay:and got us to that trailhead through some of the worst stuff she's ever seen - there were times that I swore we were completely sideways on that road, and on one of them I was s:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: scared that I would have gotten out if I wasn't worried about actually making her tip over by throwing the weight balance if I opened the door.

Ran into 3 sets of people on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend in that maze of gorgeous dirt roads.

First set was a couple in an S10, just ahead of us as we entered the first bad road. There was a wire cattle gate that they'd stopped to open, but then they waited for us after they drove through it. We got up there and asked them what was going on, and the guy said there was a massive rattler under the pile of rocks where Eric would step to close the gate after we drove through, so they waited to warn us.

Second set was ~2 hours later, we saw 2 guys on dirt bikes. We stopped and talked to them about how confusing the roads were, and to see if they agreed with us about where we THOUGHT we were at on the map........pretty soon all 4 of us are standing there dinking around with our GPS's and none of us could figure out shit on them!! Then I pulled out my trusty paper map and got some admiring ooh's and ahh's over it's quality - go good quality paper maps!! :D

While talking to them, a Jeep zipped up the road towards us. This was a severe traffic jam for that area, not kidding :D Inside was a young couple headed to the same trailhead, complete with two big happy dogs in the back!! Since they had cool dogs, I decided to forgive them for driving a Jeep instead of a Taco :D We agreed to follow them, and figured between all of our maps/books/GPS/etc, we'd figure it out. When we got to the last leg of the drive, a road that seriously did not look like a road, that had a nice massive drop off cliff right next to it (on my side of course), they zipped right up it and we sat at the base, hemming and hawing. After debating it more, we decided to go for it. Got past the initial bad looking part and as usual, it was not as bad as it looked. Then the road was downright decent for a good long while, and we were laughing at ourselves for almost not doing it. Until.............

Got to a white knuckle sideways narrow winding giant cliff drop off section that there was no way out of except forward. I freaked out pretty good. Just a few colorful adjectives thrown around in the cab during that little section :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: Made it!! :D Found the Jeep people. Bet the Taco handled that part better than their Jeep. Don't tell 'em I said that, OK TW? :D

And the grand finale of the big excitement? You know, that hike I mentioned, now that we had finally found the trailhead that we worked so hard for, and incredibly beautiful, unique geologic formations awaited just ahead down inside the canyon in front of us? Yep, we chickened out. Actually, we really did have to get back for Dolly's sake (had already been gone a long time by then), but in all honesty, that was more of a convenient excuse. The real reason was rattlesnakes. I am absolutely terrified of stepping somewhere that a rattler could be hiding.

I want some Kevlar boots. Anyone have a pair of those? What are they like? Does it seem impossible to hike difficult stuff wearing them? But hunters wear them, right? Don't they have to climb up and down some crazy stuff to get to a good hunting spot sometimes?

Anyway, I could care less that the hike didn't work out. Hoping to do it someday, maybe with the kevlar boots, but this weekend was all about having a blast in the Taco again :burnrubber:

    MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!!!!! :D

So pretty over there. Most fun roads ever too. Just an absolute paradise play land for Taco fans that like looking at cool stuff outdoors.

Are you guys convinced yet to do the Eastern Oregon Toyota Tour? :D
