No one said there would be a "REAL Gen 3 around the corner". I agree constructive criticism is good. And the argument wasnt what the marketing and sales department was calling it, it was based on how many parts are carried over and internal documents that call it an update to the current gen, just clarifying again what was actually being debated.

I want in! I am of the camp that believes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it, call it whatever the hell you want." If someone could point me to a set of rules that governs what a vehicle generation change is, I would be most tickled. What exactly are you looking for? A whole new vehicle? Why? And why does it have to be to constitute a new generation? Toyota just told us that it is annihilating the competition. It builds on what makes the Tacoma so appealing. An updated, modern approach to the aesthetics (some will complain about the grill but that is completely fixable) and a stock, off-road friendly vehicle with an abundance of customization options already on the market. If I owned a 2nd gen and knew that a lot of my existing mods would carry over, I am so much more inclined to purchase a 2016, to gain the added benefits of the new interior, engine and transmission as well as fixing many of the minor issues that plagued the 2nd gens. It is so smart on Toyota's part.

I don't own a Tacoma but I have wanted one since I was in high school (first gen). I would have purchased one this year but once I learned of the new generation it was a no brainer to wait. Sorry not all feel this way. That's my two pennies.

I propose we rename this thread to:

"Thread for the people who are butthurt that the 3rd generation Tacoma isn't diesel, bigger, smaller, or totally clean sheet to bitch about it. Those that want to chat with them are free to join to!"

No one has actually been bitching, if you read through the thread, it is actually a debate on what defines a new generation from a marketing standpoint and what toyota internal documents say, parts carried over, etc.

This what you wrote a couple of days ago
You have to remember, Mike and Bill are saying this from a marketing standpoint, "all new tacoma" because they want to sell trucks. Of course they wont hint on a rehash/update of the 2nd gen or possible future plans for an all new vehicle, that would hurt sales. It could go either way, none of us know the inside plans. I could easily see in a few years a different truck, its gonna be based on sales and competition. The 2nd Gen ran for 10 years cause the competition dropped out or became stagnant with their offerings, so they dominated the whole segment by default.

Kind of sounds like you didn,t beleive this was actually the next generation and as you said you could see a different Tacoma in a few years. When has Toyota ever came out with a totally different truck in 3 or so years. Also not just the marketing/sales dept that considers this the Gen 3 Tacoma. The engineering dept, every other dept and the Toyota top dogs that sign everybodys checks also consider this the next gen Tacoma. Just to clarify.

I sold my Tacoma (2013 DCLB TRD Sport) in anticipation of 3rd gen (I listed it above blue book and was thinking it'd take a long time to sell...it didn't). My fj40 is in another state and the only vehicle I have right now is a Camry (unless you count a kx450). Long story short, all I can do is talk shit on the internet, drink myself stupid, and try my bestest to get fat on steak and sausage today.

I have a question guys... Does it really matter what box we, or Toyota, puts it in? If its 2.5 Gen or 3rd Gen, its still the 2016 Taco.... I could call it something completely different and it wouldn't matter, it would still be the 2016 Taco... It is what it is, and I plan on getting one.

This whole 2.5 vs 3rd gen is simply semantics. It really does not matter at all which bucket you want to put it in.

Just seeing all the bs in the 3rd gen. sub forum made me realize why I rarely came back to this forum following my purchase.

    Too few to list.
I guess it doesn't really matter whether someone says its a 3rd gen and others says that it isn't. The fact of the matter is, Toyota says it is so it will be marketed and sold as 3rd generation Tacoma.

Internet forum discussions are about 75% arguing semantics. Most of us don,t take it as hard as it sounds like we do. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.:mudding:

After looking at more pics, especially the ones in glorious Desert Sand, I think the snout is truly porcine. I kinda like it.

I never hated the front-end to begin with. Besides, you won't be seeing it once you're inside driving the beast, and only the other people you're following have to fear it, which pleases me :D

Could you imagine if you're on your hands and knee's because you found a c-note on the road and the last thing you see before your head goes through your asshole is the front end of a Tacoma?

    I would fear that.
