I'm confused now. Can I tow a 2500lb fishing boat or my trailer with 2 4wheelers with this shitty engine? I probably can't handle my kayak either :/ Someone said that it has the same steering wheel as the Gen. 2, but my 08's steering wheel looks different. Do I not count? :notsure:
10 year plan baby! I'll have to wait a couple of yeas till I get mine. :) :mudding:

Everybody on here that bitches about the 3rd gen, its funny cause you will all still go and buy one......lol

Yep, exactly. And that was one of the most anemic engines ever.

Truth be told, most people don't understand power delivery anyway so they can't comprehend how much power is "enough" to do the things they want to do.

So we're getting a buzzy small V6. Will get good power but at high RPM. This is the new reality. Kinda wish they could have re-tooled the 4.0 to be more efficient like GM re-tooled their 4.3 liter. Oh well though. Should be a good truck regardless.

Please don't make false statements based on nothing. Power figures haven't been released by Toyota, so you're simply making things up.

It's highly unlikely Toyota will take a step backward with their engine choice. Do you think Toyota would have spent all that R&D money on a new engine if it would be worse than the one they already had? Direct injection will help power and torque at ALL RPM ranges. Wait till the power figured (and dyno curves) are posted before passing judgement. ;)

Not complaining really. Just probably how it will be. To get that much power out of a small displacement motor you need to tune it to be rev-happy. Doesn't mean it will be a bad motor. The new Colorado/Canyon are getting high parks and they rev high.

Ford uses twin turbos. A really big truck that gets scratch and good mileage.

I love the 4.7l V8. 19mpg at best but that V8 roar and 325 torque. Toyota hit it out of the park with the 4.7, and the A750 mated.

I am considering a used 2000-2006 low-mileage Tundra if the new Taco specs stink. I loved the modest design of that generation of Tundra. Wish it had more gears for better highway mpg but I only get about 18-19 mpg on my 2002 4x4 V6 Taco. I think the 2007-2013 Tundras were the ugliest trucks ever. The fixed it a bit with the 2014 refresh but still gross IMO.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    o_O
Double cab 1gen was 700b lighter than 2gen. It also had 5000 lb towing rating.. So you saying 3.4 was great at dragging 2200b less ? but flooding engine with fuel (1 gen tacoma with 3.4 was rated at 14 MPG in city and 18 MPG on highway) coincidentally that was the same MPG that my 1994 LC had with 4.5 L inline 6.
I don't think you want to compare that 3.4 to the 3.5.

There is a reason toyota doesn't make the 4.7 anymore! Also the 5.7 is a much better motr that kicks ass!

Nice stepside pic. With the factory Eaton mechanical LSD, 4.7l V8 in a Tundra 4WD is a nice combo. Somewhere around 7 seconds 0-60 mph.
The 4.7 was originally a Lexus motor, developed for international applications for the Lexus LX470 and LS470. Smooth V8 they slapped into the Tundra. 0-60 somewhere around 7 seconds with a 4900 lb curb weight truck. With 315-325 torque it's a good tower also.

I have the 2005 tundra access with 4.7l v8. It is very smooth. I am praying it will be similar to the new Tacoma engine. I swear the tacoma is pretty close in size to my first gen tundra.
