I think it's funny how much everyone in here rips on the new GM Twins while GM is selling the shit out of them. It's too funny.

Didn't Toyota have the same thing regarding their "unintended acceleration"....? Oh, did we all forget about that one?

It's paid off, it works, I don't have an extra $15k just burning a whole in my pocket? Come fall you better believe I'll be taking a good hard look at whatever both companies offer. Probably going to come down to a duramax diesel GMC All-Terrain Canyon and a similarly optioned out Tacoma (whatever it's trim will be called). I doubt I'm the only one who will be making the decision in that manner. But like I said, for now, I'm more than happy with what I have.

I'm not ripping GM. I'm simply pointing out that they literally have no models available on my local lots to choose from. No wonder they have a "shortage". It's cleaver advertising.

One of the smaller local dealers, MacDonald Chevrolet, just sold an All Terrain in white that had been sitting there for roughly two months. The two used Tacoma's they had on lot, on the other hand, sold immediately. I'm not seeing this demand, in Canada which is what the article OP posted talks about, to support the conclusion the GM is selling too many to keep up supply. I think what is more likely is that Canadian dealers are not getting there inventory orders because GM doesn't have enough production capacity for the truck yet.

I'm sure lots of people will be looking at comparing the new Tacoma and Canyon/Colorado once both are available. Competition is good. I drove the Colorado on a test drive when we were looking at new trucks. We ended up buying an F150 for almost the same price with a similar options package. In the end that's what will limit Colorado sales. The price is too high compared to it's larger sibling and other big three full sized trucks.

This issue is not just in Canada. It was actually a contributing factor that lead me to the Tacoma. A DCSB Colorado was a 3 month wait. When I asked about the DCLB, it was 4-5 months. If they did ever manage to get a double cab on the lot that was not special ordered, they had a list of over 50 people to call interested in buying.

It drove up prices, and I did not want to wait half a year for my truck. Thats when I started looking into the Tacoma. I have no regrets lol.

The fanboyism is something else on this site....

FBI assistant director George Venizelos declared: “Toyota put sales and profits over principle. The disregard Toyota had for the safety of the public was outrageous. Not only did Toyota fail to recall cars with problem parts, they continued to manufacture new cars with the same parts they knew were deadly.”

I can't comment on Canadian demand but around here they seem to sell somewhat well. Sale figures for April look good for the twins. Sure Toyota is still on top for the midsize segment but they should be considering they were pretty much the only game in town for 10+ years now. The shortage of supply doesn't help the sales numbers for the GM twins either. Whether the shortage is artificial or not, they are selling all they have and doing fairly well. They have taken the #2 spot from Nissan easily.

I agree that competition is good. I'm hoping, if nothing else, it helps Toyota to produce a better truck! And you're spot on regarding the fact that full size trucks are almost the same price as their midsize cousins. It's downright shameful. Toyota is one of the worst offenders here. I hate saying this, but if Ford made an F150 that was 83% of it's size (the F125 ;) ) with the ecoboost V6, I'd buy one tomorrow.

You could always wait for one of these FWD babies from Ram :p. Locking front diff for the win...

I've heard from the dealership owner I know that if the Colorado succeeds the Global Ranger will come back to NA with the 2.7 L Ecoboost, and the tiny Powerstroke, which is already here unlike the baby duramax design, as engine options. The Ranger would likely see a different face tagged on to make it look like it's bigger brother and have it's payload rating turfed a bit but at the last meetings he was at with Ford corporate it sounded like they already have something ready to go if they want to compete with GM.

Basically the way it was phrased was if the midsized market keeps growing and it doesn't hurt the Silverado's sales then Ford will jump in. Ford knows if they bring the Ranger back they will get sales back because there is a pretty good chunk of guys out there with good Ranger memories, unlike the Colorado, and just going on the name plate they will have an advantage. Unlike GM, Ford has all there ducks in a row with a set of small truck engines from there van line ready to go. All they need to do is change some sheet metal and they could have the Ranger on the road in ~1 year.

Anyways that's enough speculating for me from my Ford buddy. He said the same sort of things about the F100 in 2010 and that project was dumped when the Tacoma had a few rough sales years. That scared Ford completely out of the market, especially with the promise of more efficient F150's coming out to rival the Ranger.

I would like to know where that figure is pulled from. Is that the plants maximum production or is that the units actually hitting the road? They don't specify in the article.

Fanboyism is fine but when you start trashing other brands for the same things Toyota got busted for, you're treading on thin ice. It's funny people still buy Toyota products even after Toyota covered up complaints, paid more than $1.6 billion in civil suits, $66 mil in fines to NHTSA, and lied to Congress.

Good article, thanks for sharing. Don't know and don't care about all the #s but at least GM is putting people in this country to work, lol.
