Well, the rains of Houston this week took there toll. Waiting for the insurance to come tow it and do their assessment. The water crested about the front emblem / lower portion of the headlights (the picture below is from earlier in the morning). The front cup holders were still full of water once the water level went down. Any thoughts on the myriad of possible troubles? Haven't tried to started it since I'm not sure how much water, if any, is in the cylinders. Another fun note, it smells like (and looked like) there was sewage in the water too.

Let the insurance company have it! That truck will never be the same. If you keep it, you will never be able to stop worrying about it.

They should total your truck. Once water gets into the wiring and other hidden areas of the truck there is going to be nothing but trouble. ... and let's not forget about the mold and mildew in hot and humid Houston. Sorry for you loss.

Totalled I'd think. Even if you wanted to put in the effort to restore the truck your resale value is shot with a vehicle that's been flooded like that.

This may be a great truck for somebody to buy at auction to build up and beat the piss out of off road though.

Yeah, I feel like a terrible person for saying this about my beloved truck but I'm hoping they total it too. Just the thought of "what did they miss" or "what might happen one random day because they didn't fix something completely" makes me want to just take the loss and get a new one. Tough to stomach though.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Will keep you updated. Good to know you guys have the same thoughts as me, hopefully the insurance company will too.

That really sucks but totaling it is for the best. Good luck shopping for a new one.

Since it hasn't been run, I'll wager none.

If it's flat bed towed to a shop and properly addressed, it will be fine. It's fresh water, not salt water. But it won't be cheap as a lot of labor is involved to do it right. However, depending on the mileage/condition of the truck, it may well be cheaper than a total.

My biggest concern would be the electronics (processors, not fittings) that were submerged.

But it's likely it will be totaled. Hopefully it will be handled properly so guys like me can find some good deals................ :)

If there's sewage in the water, they pretty much have to total it!

Well it was barely raining when I got home; second I live in an apartment and the garage is the below the building, not much I can do to get around that. The road outside I could park on is even closer to the bayou and cars were literally floating down that road so I would have been worse off (or maybe better since they definitely would have had to total the car then). Finally, never had a problem like this before with rain, this is some of the worst flooding in Houston in the past 20+ years, particularly on this bayou. It wasn't predicted to be above flood stage at all but it did. Some things just happen outside our control, but in hindsight you're right, should have parked somewhere else I guess.
