What sucks about the wraps is they are stick and rock magnets. Even being as dainty as you can down the trail with wraps or paint,,inevitably, a big ole pine stob will decide to leave it's signature right down the side , dead center.

What I love about them?,,on and done!. A little scrubbing for prep and cleanliness, and then squeegee the sheets on. Big giant camo sticker wrap. Old rusty pitted looking car wrap. Whatever you desire.

Just rock the pressure washed look for a bit if all the red can be stripped off that way, decide on a color and/or a wrap. Make it look lived in,,homeless or not.

I just paid $800 at a local shop to color match paint my cap, put on some pinstrips and paint the Toyota devil horn emblem Tennessee orange. Let's see how your cap comes out...

I'll venture to guess yours came out better than ours will. Surely for $800, they've got some experience. I have zero experience at this!! :D But I am very pleased at how nicely all that black came off. Yet another example of the pressure washer making quick, pleasant work of some otherwise horrid task. Love that thing!!

Not sure what my next step is. Wouldn't I need to sand the red if I wanted to paint it a different color? The red is in good shape, I don't think any of it got damaged (it is still shiny). Can't decide if it's worth doing more to it, or just leave it red and don't mess with it, since it looks OK. Sure, the red doesn't match the Taco, but it still looks a million times better than it did with that black paint chipping away slowly.

For the new paint to hold, the old paint at least needs a fine sanding...best of luck. I ran our pressure washer for a few hours recently to clean the dirt and fine gravel out of our rock lined ditches...

TW, how do I know if I removed the clear coat from the red when I pressure washed the black paint off? What do I do next?

I am not finding the right buttons when posting. Jen, click on the "click to expand" bit inside the quote above photo of my rig. I answer your questions about eastern Oregon.

Meeting in Fields could happen, and I think it'd be fun.

if the clear coat came off it would be very dull and not a very smooth finish, they sand it rough before spraying the clear coat so it has something to stick to.

im pretty sure your good and they just never did good prep for the black to stick, hell they might have just washed it and painted it on lol.

it it has a shine to it when its dry then the clear coat is still there

what to do next is paint a huge mural of your dog on the sides of it

now you have the opportunity to do something original to your truck alone since its red so mask off some areas to stay red to create flames, pin stripes, detailing stripes or patterns, devil horns, giant dog paw prints, Jen's Bakery, or whatever then paint the rest for a great detailed and unique look

Sweet!! Just read your post. Sounds like you are going for it all down in SE, that's cool!! I think we'll go in the fall, so not sure if we can make it now as well, but I know we'd both like to so we'll see! : )

DP was talking about Glass Buttes. We checked that out based solely on DP's suggestion (had never heard about it before, even though I've lived in Oregon nearly 15 yrs, it took someone on TW from a different state telling me about it, go figure!), and it was awesome! Will now be picking his brain for future ideas too!! South side of hgwy 20, east of Bend a pretty good distance, I think DP said ~77 miles. Great camping area, very pretty and tons of variety of "camping spots," with views in all directions. Mazes of dirt roads winding around back in this pretty area, fun driving, nothing horrid. Very scenic and just a nice area with some seriously bad ass rocks!! Had a lot of fun poking around back there in the Taco and seeing what all was there. Although I will admit, I just looked back at DP's pic of his obsidian from there, and he somehow managed to find the coolest looking two colored black and orange ones!! I found one or two that barely had a hint of another color on them, but most that I found are solid black. Still pretty, but after looking at his pic again, I now wish I'd looked harder to find prettier ones!! Look at his pic before you go there, it will motivate you to find the best ones!! : )

Going for it on the Chalk Basin area, huh? COOL!!! If we don't make it down there at the same time as you, you'll have to tell us the good/bad/ugly of that area!! They are constantly repeating their warnings in every guide, map, book, website, etc, about how to NOT drive back on those dirt roads around there if there's any rain at all, because you will get stuck in the gumbo. We hit a handful of SEVERE "mud puddles" while driving around the Owyhees last weekend, and even though we had no issues getting out of them, I could see where it could become difficult or impossible to keep moving forward in that kind of slop if it was never ending. Here's a pic of one of the more fun "puddles" on one of those dirt roads on the east side of the Owyhee.... : )

I wonder why the gate was locked up in the Steens. Maybe still snow on the higher parts of the road? It gets to nearly 10K up at Wildhorse I know, pretty sure that's the highest spot up there. Here's a couple pics of when we went up there:

    DSCF6082.jpg
Wildhorse Lake. Doesn't look at all like a steep hike to get down to the lake shore, but it is. Not insane, but tough enough that we wussed out. Although that's not saying much these days!! Not as fit and invincible as we were 5-10 years ago!!

Thank you Keakar!!! That's what I was thinking about the clear coat. I'll take a good look today when it's sunny and dry to evaluate the shine factor and report back with pics if I'm in doubt..........

YES!!! I love your ideas to get crazy with the topper!! How bout this name: "Jen's 1st Gen Bakery" ??????????????????????????????????

But wait, does that make it sound like I am selling old, stale, historical baked goods? That probably wouldn't draw in the crowds I guess.......:D

Really thinking of just having Eric print a bunch of decals and basically wallpapering the topper with them. Then I can just design what I want on the computer, and stick it on there!! No sanding, no painting (assuming my clear coat is still good) then have a custom look for very little work and for free!!!!!

I am VERY open to ideas for stickers. Gimme some wacky ideas guys!! Stickers/decals can easily be changed out, so I can get very obnoxious with them :D:D:D:D

how about "Crazy Missing Electrode Lady" that has a nice ring to it :p

seriously though I think grafics would be better then "doing something" on it so look at the Toyota grafics and maybe mimic one of those or your own design based off of them.

I just see lettering getting old and boring real quick after the new cuteness of it wears off
