I was working on replacing my water pump last night and got to detach it from the engine block, however, the fluid intake manifold (the thing that the thermostat goes in on one side and the other goes into the water pump and has about 4-5 different hose fittings) is so badly caked in it won't come apart. I did remove the four screws that fasten it to the pump, as per the Hanes manual.

Should I detach all the hoses first and take the pump together with the intake out and kind of bang it off outside the engine bay where I can get a better swing with a deadblow hammer or is there a trick to get it to come off more easily?

One hose is all the way back and I don't think there is a way to take it off or put it back on without taking off the air intake. Which is a moderate P.I.A.

so basically, are you saying detach them while still inside the engine bay or take the pump and the manifold out together and then detach them? I understand in either scenario, the hoses need to be taken off.

I meant do you detach the manifold from the water pump first while the pump is still bolted on or do you take the two together out of the engine bay and separate them outside ? What is a better way?

So I guess it is "Water Inlet Housing"... Surprisingly, RockAuto doesn't have it. Thanks

there was a "hidden" 5th bolt behind the main body of the inlet that was not visible from the above, one of the 3 bolts that went into the water pump, the other two going into the engine block. problem solved
