TMS Snorkel showed up this morning. Initial inspection looks really good. I see very little difference between this TMS snorkel and the Safari ones I've had in the past. Obviously it doesn't have "Safari Snorkels" embossed in the body so it's a smooth exterior but the plastic is thick and looks to be well formed with no flaws that I could find. I haven't had time to install it yet or check the template for accuracy so I can't report on fitment quality yet. But for now it seems like $40 well spent. :)

I know there will be people who like this mod and others will hate it. Oh well. Purely cosmetic.

Yeah it's black to match the hood blackout. Snorkel is sitting in the garage. Haven't had time to install it.

I think that's the same snorkel my bro has on his. Bought it off ebay for like $100. Same quality as safari but just no logo and smooth like yours.

Exactly! and much cheaper than a repaint. However, the scoop etc is just a bandaid until I do ultimately have it repainted but I'm thinking that rather than just painting the hood, I'll probably have the entire truck redone at some point. So this solution just needs to last until then.

Never! I am not a fan of full line-ex.

It's not all it's cracked up to be. It makes the rig easy to clean, quiet, insulated, and is affordable compared to a "real" paint job. It also lasts forever and that is just plain no fun at all.

On a serious note, I am strongly considering a vinyl wrap for my FJ80 but I need to knock some dents out first.

"Easy to clean" as in it can't get any cleaner than just hosing it off anymore? I can't argue that it adds some insulation and sound deadening and that it last forever. I would add that there's no more need to worry about scratches with a line-ex'd truck either. So it's hard to debate the functional aspects of Line-ex. But the vain side of me just hates the look of it on an entire truck....no offense. As for affordable, a quality line-ex job isn't that different than a decent paint job in terms of cost. If you're talking show-quality paint then that's a whole different thing. I'm not after a show truck.

I'm a fan of the skewp. I'm sure the LC can use the extra 24hp & 31 lb-ft that it gives!:burnrubber:

I finished up the TMS snorkel install last night. Overall pretty smooth. The supplied template wasn't quite accurate. The two holes closest to the windshield were not in the correct place but that was about all I needed to change. After drilling the holes, I removed the fender to make it easier to tighten all the bolts and remove the factory intake plumbing. The quality of the snorkel is really quite good, in fact excellent considering the price. For a $40 Snorkel it is great. Comparing it to the Safari snorkels I've used in the past, the obvious difference is the lack of the embossed Safari logo on the main body. Fitment is and construction is good although it may not be quite as precise where the snorkel follows the contours of the fender at the front, but I'm getting quite nit-picky. Material seems to be the same plastics. Time will tell if this one has problems with UV exposure and fading or cracking, but I doubt it. So with the exception of needing to do some double-checking of measurements I'm very please with the purchase.

It's not a Box Rocket rig without a snorkel (if there aren't modified fenders ;) )

How have I been missing this? I lurk over on IH8MUD in the 80 forums because I want one. I want to dump a GM LS in it because I'm not a purist and I think the rig needs more power.
