My first Tacoma was a 95 4x4 with I4. since that I promised my self never to buy a truck with a weak engine because:
    1. Don't really get better fuel economy.

    2. There will always be that once a year situation were power is needed and you don't have it with a 4 cyl.

I would get the 4.0. It will be worth it in the long run. The rest you'll just have to weigh and consider depending on your budget.

Yep, there's just too many advantages to going V6. Better power, similar fuel economy, and better resale value by a long shot.

Not necessarily a major advantage to resale.

For comparison my 2014 I4 gets 375 miles on a full tank. That's top off and driven until the light comes on.

Agreed. I've heard from day one that the more popular V6 has more resale potential, but zero actual proof of this. The market exists for both engines, so it shouldn't be a factor. The V6 or GTFO parroting would be far more reasonable if it had any legitimate, across the board proof.

    I won't hold my breath.

I've also heard that TRD models offer better resale, but when I bought my truck there was an '07 DCLB SR5 on the lot going for only a couple thousand less than my '11 DCLB TRD Sport with similar mileage.

I've just looked around at used Tacomas, the V6 models have higher price tags than I4 models. Cheapest used ones you can buy are base 5 lugs. Most expensive ones are TRD and Limited 4x4's.

So a base 5 lug is less than a Limited 4x4 and therefore V6 a worth more..? Got it.

I never even knew you could get a 4 banger dcsb?

That would be a pain in the butt here in the wv hills.

I test drove a 4 cylinder 5 speed AC that I really wanted wife made me get the dcsb 4.0.

I have a 4 cyl 5 speed access cab amd my dad has a 4 cyl 4 speed DCSB. His truck has no get up. That's because of gearing more than weight. Now in my truck with the low gearing I've never felt lacking in the power department. As long as you don't try to accelerate going up a hill at 1200 rpm. I would choose a 4 cyl 5 speed 4x4. Just my $0.02
