Had my truck in the shop at Rock Toy Industries for some long over due maintenance. They went above and beyond backing out over tightened filler plugs (which they went to the dealer and bought a replacement for) and repairing my torn CV boot. If I would've done this my self in the drive way, I would've been stuck there with no way to fill the transfer case.

Check them out if you need to have a shop do some work.

Holy Moly... a group camp shot with all ground tents and not all RTTs.

That makes me smile (only because I can't afford an RTT right now)

Me too! I don't know that I want something that big and expensive on the truck all the time, but maybe I am just jealous. :notsure:

I would take it off when it is not being used, no sense in hauling it around town. Not like you can camp at the mall.

I would rig it up in the rafters of the garage when not in use. I never understood seeing trucks/SUVs here driving around with an RTT 24/7/365

lol, not in Fort Collins. We got an image to uphold.

Ground tent ftw. Archer hasn't figured out ladders yet, and for that matter I'm not good on them either.

I love my ground tent and plan to build an expo trailer that uses it like a RTT. Long way down the road though

I've given thought to this too a few times. In the end, the less stuff I take and have to deal with, the happier I am. If my truck bed is half full for a week of camping, I've got too much stuff. Even for the two weeks I'm gone hunting, living in a domed ground tent, I still have lots of room in the bed, to haul meat out of course.
Of course it's just me now too. When I did the family outings, I really could have used a U-haul for the weekend trips.

Oh you can I slept in mine a lot down town if I was too drunk to drive. :)
You could always do the seek outside tipi but it is more expensive than the RTT, I can't wait for mine to show up. But it's a good option because it's not attached to the truck. The RTT was nice but for Mtn biking we like to leave camo and head to a brewery or two and packing it up was Not as easy as just driving away from camp.

I just don't see the big advantage in an RTT. A $2000 tent as far as I'm concerned. Doesn't seem too much easier than pitching a dang tent!!

I had a "truck tent" on my old Ford Explorer. It hung off the raised tailgate and you slept in the back. It sounds really cool, until you realize you have to break camp every day to go wheeling. Turns out, truck tents (or RTT) kinda suck.

Can't compare a truck tent to an RTT. Apples and oranges when you're talking RTT you get what you pay for you can get a truck tent at Walmart... But I had mine for a few years and have moved on but it was still a great piece of outdoor equipment.
Yea and no they are worth the money for sure. They are very useful. Again apples and oranges when you're comparing it to a normal tent.

I agree with Devin. I personally have changed my off road habits to more of EXPO style exploring vs super hard challenges. So an RTT works well for me. Not to mention :
    • Off the ground so you don't get wet or cold
    • Nice memory foam sleeping pad
    • Quick set and tear down.
    • Just plain cool!:D
