With the 2016 Tacoma just a few months away what are you considering purchasing, the Short Box or the Long Box?

This 'argument' is so subjective. It's like asking if you're going to buy an automatic or a manual. Everyone is of course going to weigh in and be steadfast in their choice. There is no point of trying to convince anyone which is better as its all based on your needs. For example, I literally haul nothing, so buying a long bed was pointless for me, besides driving around with an extra foot of bed. Is there any convincing me otherwise? No, is there any chance of me convincing a guy with a long bed he doesn't need an extra foot of cargo area? No. Buy what you want and be happy with it.

Not at all, just a bit ridiculous. Lets start a red or black thread or a sport or offroad thread, I mean come on. I understand you guys are chomping at the bit for your trucks, but patience, no need to start pointless threads cluttering up the server, etc.

Probably not going to happen. This configuration has never been available and since the gen 3 is not a clean sheet redesign, they probably won't offer it. I wish they did, though. That is the configuration I would like too.

Wow, just when I forget how douchey the people on this forum can be, a thread like this pops up and so many people have to rag on the OP for his question.

OP, to answer your question, I am definitely going DCLB. I like to mountain bike so a 6 foot bike fits a lot better in a 6 foot bed than a 5 foot bed. Also, I am a homeowner and make LOTS of trips to Home Depot for random stuff, so having the extra foot for carrying shenanigans will be very helpful. Also, this is probably personal preference but mine will be used as a daily driver (23 miles each way to and from work 5 days a week) so I am going for comfort as well, and the long bed will have a smoother ride than the short bed.

A couple of people did nail it though, it all comes down to how you want to use your truck and will be tough to answer without knowing how you are going to use it. For instance, if you plan on going off-roading, a shorter wheelbase will make it easier to navigate around some terrain that the longer version may not be able to. Some others also want the shorter wheel base because they want to be able to fit it in the garage. Me personally, the wife's Camry is in our "2 car garage" that is really a 1.5 car garage unless you like dinging your doors on shelves/bikes/lawnmowers when you get out, so no chance of me fitting my truck in the garage anyways!

    Hope this all helps!!

For me, long bed w/ double cab would be a little too long. I think the 3rd Gen is already 4" longer, so to add another foot would make it tighter than I want for the garage.

However, I really like the idea of a 6' bed. Mostly for truck camping. So, I would consider the Extended Cab since I rarely have back seat passengers. But then again, the 4 door is really convenient just for inside the cab storage.

Most likely, I expect it would be the Double Cab/ Short Bed for me. But I am going to look at all of the choices.

I am hoping that they have enough feedback to see that there is enough demand to build a manual with a long box. New engines. New transmissions. Shouldn't be too hard to do. All it takes is for Toyota to think that it is worth building.

I agree it should be offered. Still not sure why they never offered the DCLB with a manual. My only theory is that maybe Toyota thinks the DCLB is less likely to see serious off road use where the manual shines. I can live with an auto as long as it gets MPG and it will probably get better mpg than the manual.

    acmccart8,

Thanks for your insight, I had not thought about the ride difference between the SB and the LB until you pointed it out, I have owned both, a Toyota Long Box and a Frontier Short Box and the Frontier was a choppier ride than the Tacoma.

I had a bed extender with the Frontier that I used for longer loads, but, one of the things you nailed is the ride, which is important to me as well.

    Thanks.
