Oh, some will buff, and I can fix the fender flares easy enough, but the rest are some pretty serious scratches.

And, yes, as a rule I don't use these types of washes. Just freakin' figures I was in a hurry and thought I would try one that probably runs a 100 cars per day through it easy and I got nailed . . .

 

I see what your saying. Try a clay bar then a heavy duty compound then polish it and see if you can get the bad ones out

I'd buy an optima and see if that fixes it, gives you an excuse to buy one anyway

 

wired up my reverse cam, and replaced the parking brake cable from the cab. unfortunately i have to still break free the rusted spring clip under the cab and the pin that is on that arm also under the cab that the first part of the cable goes to, the arm moves fine, but that pin and the spring clip before it are rusted solid, been soaking them every hour for the last 2 days and they still don't budge

anyway here is a pict of the radio with the rear view camera on.

The cables you see coming out of the bottom of the ashtray area are a usb cable, and a MHL cable, the MHL allows me to connected my android phone to the radio and mirror its screen, very useful for navigation and the like. Although i personally like my garmin in the corner of the windshield, you do not have to take your eyes off the road to notice it, where on this one you have to look down at the radio

 

FFS. Letting it idle a few minutes will not charge a dead battery. It needs hours of driving to charge a battery. Or simply go to Harbor Freight and get a $20 charger. Even with a dedicated battery charger it'll take most of a night.

 

Walmart also has cheap chargers, i picked one up years ago when in need, cant remember the model, but it has a bad battery detection circuit in it, it will auto turn off if it cant recharge the battery.

 

Has anybody done a switch panel in the head liner just behind the map lights? I'm thinking that would be pretty awesome

 

Yeah I avoid those like the plague. My girlfriend works in a detail shop and always rants about someone taking their brand new cars through them, and getting scratches and swirl marks. After all it is a friction car wash, you can think of it as trying to lightly sand the outside of the car, but the grit is inconsistent and the pressure on it is uneven. From what I understand buffing it will take the edge off the swirl marks, but usually the damage is done and needs some paint work beyond that. Usually depends on the color of the truck as to how much it shows.

 

Take it FWIW but when I was researching batteries, there were a lot of complaints about Optima's QA/QC.

I opted for the Diehard Platinum and it is friggen awesome.

 

That sucks..... those washes are the worst - hence your avoidance.

But I'm pretty sure they have signage giving a disclaimer that they are not responsible for damage to your vehicle. Probably for this every reason.

On a side note: My old Bronco had a factory paint job that looked like Starsky & Hutch... hence my CB handle, "Hutch."

 

Any protection on the bottom of the rack and/or top of your bed rails? If not I see some paint rub happening.... and it looks like your truck is cherry.

 

Does it make a single click or multiple clicks?

Layman's diagnosis dictates the former = bad starter and the latter = bad battery. Bring it to an Autozone or something and have them charge the battery all the way up and do a load test.

 

It's a multiple click, yeah that's what I think is the battery is bad. I'll probably go there in a few

 

I do remember reading bad reviews on optimas in like the past 2-3 years but I've had my red top for about 4 years now and I've drained it way too many times tailgating and still haven't had a problem with it. Not sure how the new ones are but I hope their spell of bad batteries is over because mine has lasted through a lot

 

Never buy batteries from WalMart because they're usually OT/weekend batteries for WM to get a bulk 'deal' on the price.

Interstate Batteries from a reputable parts house are the only battery worth spending coin on. I run O'Reillys house batteries and haven't had any issues with them. But I measure the battery's mounting spot and get one that will fill in that spot, not what's called for in the computer. Then I'll find the biggest one that'll fit with the most CCA. Top post, side post, don't care. As long as it's big and fits. I put the Vdub diesel sized battery in my Vdub gasser.

 

My wife's Lexus she hardly drives was 'dead' a few months ago. I tried to charge it and didn't check the connections and carried the battery to AZ when it wouldn't charge. They tell me it's good, I get pissed and leave because I know it wouldn't charge. I charge it on the floor of my garage and it took a charge that night. The next day I inspect the terminals and the + had a slight film of corrosion that wasn't visible from the outside. Cleaned it and it's been good to go.
