It starts correctly now, thanks to the best dealer tech ever.
And riding in a jet boat with this view all day inside this blazing hot sunny canyon, while getting sprayed by the Snake River isn't bad....

    Too few to list.
One of the few states that I frequent. I can say that I really like Oregon but one thing that prevents me to saying that "I f*ckin love OR" is your women.

And this short little easy hike was perfect for our senior 4 legged kid with bad arthritis. Amazing how you can find damn near anything you want here in terms of outdoor options.

The best German restaurant in the state is in Mt. Angel. Obviously, I am biased. Being German, and living within 10 miles of it.

Mt Angel? Or the fancy one with the glockenspiel? Have not eaten at the fancier one yet, but want to. Have eaten Mt Angel A LOT and can't get enough of that stuff. Jealous you live close to there! Yummy :hungry: Eric & I are mostly german too. We are fools for german tater salad, sausages of all kinds, Optimator, fondue........dammit, I just recovered from drooling over Haines, and now we are talking about Mt Angel food......:hungry:

And that would be another area of Oregon that I absolutely love. Beautiful country, great food, german village with the best Oktoberfest ever, cool antique stores in Aurora, hiking/off road options galore between Scotts Mills, Silver Falls, Opal.......

Good grief. I am never going to log off of TW again forever. This thread is feeding my Oregon addiction something fierce.

TW, sorry for posting like 5 pages worth of crap, hope I'm not pissing anyone off with my over-exuberance on this topic :deadhorse:

PS: Have you tried the german bakery in NE Portland? True heaven for any german dessert/pastry connoisseur.....I will not admit publicly how many different items we tried there, but let me just say we are two people, and it was more than two items, and they were gone with ~5 min. :D

My grandpa was the first one born in the US. I'm not, myself, originally from Germany. I can understand German, but cannot speak it or write it. Grandpa was only taught in English... family came over in 1906.

They are actually from the German/Swiss border... when it was one country. A town called Haslibach, located in Bern.

I lived in Germany for 7 years, and brought home a wonderful souvenir as well. (We've been married 9 years)

I'm from the Brooks/Silverton/Salem type of area. It's right in the middle of all of them. Still considered Salem somehow though.
I live in Washington now. Air Force took me to KS and back to WA. I'll probably stick up here the rest of my life after retirement though.

My Taco in one of my new favorite Oregon places, just a couple weeks ago. I'm painting the topper as soon as the rain passes this week, so she will be much prettier after that in my trip pics : )

Ach so. I lived in a tiny town called Wackernheim on an Army base that kind of reminded me of that movie Sgt. Bilko.

You wouldn't come back to Oregon????? My husband convinced me to try living in Seattle when we first got engaged - I was just waitressing in W. Salem, and he had an OK job in Seattle. Tried it for one summer. HATED it. Horrible experience. Do not like Washington at all ever since. Nagged him to look for a job in Portland night and day for that entire summer. Guess what? He found one :D Fast too. :D That was ~12 yrs ago. :D

Just way too crowded up there for me. May as well be NY or LA as far as I'm concerned. Blech. I can barely tolerate going into downtown Portland, so Seattle was super blech for me. And expensive. And I never thought I'd find a place that received more grey, rainy days than Salem. Until I lived in Seattle.

Although I do want to visit that german village, I always forget the name, you guys will know what I'm talking about. Up in the mountains in kinda central-ish WA.

And I wanna explore eastern WA too. Sounds like it's very similar to eastern OR, you guys think that's true?

A few reasons I'd stay here. One, no income tax. Two, they won't tax my military retirement at 40% like Oregon will. Three, my wife makes over 70k a year starting here as a nurse. And I live out in the boonies of Renton. I'm happy with where I am.

Where did you waitress? My dad used to own the Westgate Cafe, and now my aunt owns it.

Leavenworth. Eastern Washington is very similar to EO, except there are ten times as many cops. Check out Palouse falls sometime. I like the Northern blues around Dayton too.

Makes sense. Sounds like a good life! Sorry, didn't mean to rip on WA like that, that was kind of not very nice

Jonathan's in downtown Salem. They had that cool antique long bar, all dimly lit in there. We had lots of regular customers, I got to know lots of really nice people while working there. It was a pretty fun place to work. I was there in the early 2000's. I was actually sad to leave that job. Moved to Seattle and worked at a snobby place and made a ridiculous amount of $ which was great but could not deal with the snob factor. :puke:

Yes, Leavenworth!! We keep trying to get up there, but we never plan far enough ahead to book anywhere decent to stay. It seems like it's a really popular place, always booked with visitors!
You think it'd be more fun to visit Leavenworth in summer or winter? I know they go nuts with celebrating Christmas up there and finding a place to stay seems impossible. Is there nice hiking near there, to where it would make sense to visit in summer instead? Bet those roads are kinda white knuckle in winter....

Wow, I am really stoked to find this thread!! Thank you again for the tips!! Fun to find others that are into the same stuff, exploring the best of Oregon in their Tacos!! Sweetness. I am so addicted to this thread : )
